I can't believe you are actually thinking about turning down Booth with $60K and Kellogg with $100K for a CHANCE at H/S/W. Assuming you want to get into PE after school, your outcomes will be driven mostly by your pre-MBA experience (which is highly relevant) rather than the school you attend.

I would take the money and run.

I fully second this. Take Booth and $.

I believe you need to take advantage of the opportunities you have either in Booth or Kellog. You are still in M7 circle. Do not be so intrigued to brand as you still have high quality with less money. Consider starting your life with less debt. I advise you to go deeply Booth and Kellog and choose the courses that reinforce your background which is the your real asset to build upon in PE field.

Make your plan to get your dream job.

You are still young. I get a sense from your question, that even if you go to one of the admitted schools, you will always have a nagging feeling of "what if". With b-school, sometimes you have to go with your heart, and not your head.

I totally disagree with this, respectfully of course. You have two terrific choices with Booth and Kellogg. I think choosing to pass on these offers for a "hope" next year is a totally ridiculous thought, esp. since you already have 2 years of PE experience.

Any clue why you didn't get into H/S this year? Unless you know why and are confident you can address the problem(s), there is no reason to assume the outcome would be different next year for you.

Certain top PE shops simply don't recruit outside of Harvard and Stanford and sometimes Wharton. The level he is shooting for is basically the ultra elite position, I think. This isn't like going for MBB consulting or even IB. Prestige actually has some impact here.

He (she?) wants to work at a mid-market fund, not a megafund. That should be completely doable from Booth (and likely Kellogg, too).

I highly doubt that any school above Kellogg will give you $100k. You can leverage your time there to achieve your goals, it might take just a bit more effort than if you were at Stanford or HBS.

You're living the dream my friend. Don't squander a great opportunity for a pipe dream!

This forum isn't the best place to judge for yourself if re-applying will have more success with H/S/W... you should only walk from the other M7 if you personally feel strongly that you would be able to up your career and do something specifically helpful, as K/B/C will not be options next time around. If your not sure or don't need the brand to get into specific prestigious firms that only go to 1-2 schools, take the bird in hand.

I assume you've walked back to CBS and Booth regarding Kellogg offering more? Depending on your financial situation you may want to chose agnostic to the $$ as it's not like PE is going to leave you hurting after school if a certain market is more interesting to you for example (it's a lot easier to get plugged in quickly in your local market). It's hard to walk away from 100K or even 60K though, so if money/resume plug help run with Booth.
