I think you are doing yourself a big disservice by considering unc to the exclusion of duke and ross. If your immediate post-mba goal is to do a PMM type role at a tech company, Ross is the best out of these three. It does very well in tech, especially at the big names such as MSFT, Amazon, Google, etc. and very well in terms of getting to the west coast (seattle and cali). Ross also has solid entreprenuerial and venture fund extra curricular activities to get involved in and learn from.

Even though Tech PMM roles happen later on campus, you will need to start networking fairly early and in time with consulting prep. Basically if you are doing tech and consulting, it will run very parallely. But that's relatively true for all schools.

I would say that if tech PMM is what you want to do - Ross is a better option purely because of how ubiquitous Microsoft, Amazon, and Google are at Ross. Not to mention, Apple has started product marketing recruiting at Ross :) I would like to say I had something to do with that :)

Also, just so you know, you are right about CPG and international students. Only Kraft Heinz sponsors and takes about 1/2 people from the campus (international students) so I would not hedge my bets with CPG.

Yeah I guess. Many admitted students have already started preparing for consulting. I guess to give themselves enough time for tech later?

Yes that is the goal really! But would Ross have an edge over Fuqua in this department?
Oh wow! That's amazing! Would love to know how :D

Oh right! Thanks.
Definitely not gonna move towards CPG.

Absolutely! I love that Ross has so many opportunities for entrepreneurs. I think that is the only place it really has an edge on Fuqua and that really matters a lot to me.
I think both Ross and Fuqua do very well in tech. I agree that I only have a surface level knowledge of the stats (placement reports and a few talks with current students). But from what I have gathered, both schools seem similar in that area.

Yeah, the networking or outreach for Tech should be in parallel, although I will say that networking does next to nothing for Amazon and Google. Amazon adheres pretty strictly to their personality assessment test, and Google looks at work experience. This was back in 2016-2018. If things changed, then this poster knows better than me. Also, Ross isn't a feeder into Google even though they come to campus for a couple events. They aren't OCR like Microsoft.

Also, I have noticed that applications for Tech did start earlier for off-campus like at Facebook, Adobe, PayPal, Dropbox, etc. So set up job alerts on LinkedIn or search for tech internship and FT postings at the beginning of the academic year. Most non-target schools for Tech are usually wrong, and late, about when Tech postings go live. It's usually 2-3 months sooner than they say. Don't take Career Services at face value if they say "off campus recruiting is at the end." Sorry if this was somewhat conflicting to my initial post about the timelines. Only just remembered some Tech postings came earlier for FT in 2017 after I read the previous post.

Really helpful advice once again!
Do you think the covid 19 situation might affect the recruitment timelines this year?

Also, it's interesting to see that people are voting more in favor of Fuqua but the comments are highly in favor of Ross!

Hi which schools would you say are feeders for true Tech PM roles . Its really hard to dig that out of employment reports since the term is very subjective and different schools publish them in different ways.. even some of the M7s like CBS have very few going into tech . Ross seem to have done better there though I might be wrong. Curious to know which schools would ideally be considered best for Tech PM roles ..

As a few people have mentioned for the best and most desirable roles are often based on the previous work experience. Telegraph MBA name is a nice validation but it is your WE and the performance on the interview that often are the deciding factor.

Networking is also important and that’s where School comes in and programs that have alumni and interns will be much more helpful.
