Hi Friends,

Thank you very much for creating this dedicated thread for verbal preparation.
Thanks Gurupreet for your efforts.

I was feeling quite nervous because of verbal score. I came across this thread and it inspired me a lot. I am seeing myself along with you guys and I am sure studying with you will definitely increase my score. I am more confident now after going through the posts in this thread.

I am giving GMAT for the first time. Till now I have done verbal part from OG12, OG10(Except RC). Gone through Manhattan SC, CR bible. Yesterday I gave GMAT Prep and my score Q 41 and V 21.

I studied CR bible and then through OG10. It improved my accuracy in CR and I am not worried about CR currently.

About SC, even though I have gone through Manhattan SC twice and solved OG12 twice, whenever a new question appears, I am able to eliminate 3 answers and I am almost always confused on the rest of the two choices.
SC accuracy is only 60% in any mock test given.

I am now planning to revise Manhattan SC again because it has been long time since I last opened it. For SC, I am practicing problems from grockit and from other material and not going back to Manhattan SC. Perhaps that might be the reason of poor SC performance.

About RC, struggling with inference and tone of author questions. overall accuracy in RC is only 50 % while in CR is 80 %

It will be very much helpful if you guys can share some tips about it.
I will keep posting my progress here.

Thanks and Regards,
Chaitra

I am not good in verbal though but I can share with you what my approach has been

I have already given the GMAT once and my score was 550 (Q47,V20).

My accuracy has increased upto 80 % from 50%(or sometimes even less) in SC in last one month.

What I did was instead of solving the OG question.
I read the SC Ques on GMAt Club, Manahattan forum ,beatthegmat forum and other forums available than I attempted the Brutal SC all of them and read there explanation from every forum mentioned above.Though my accuracy was mere 35% but reading there explanation from different helped me alot than i compared my way of solving these questions.
I found out so many mistakes in my approach.
Right now I am doing Manhattan SC again and working on how to improve the way i am solving the question
Right now I am doing Verbal OG and concentrating only on SC.
I would finish V.O.G by this weekend both SC and RC lets see how it goes.

Hi amneetpadda,

Thanks for your quick reply and suggesting me a different approach.

Can you please elaborate what do you just said about reading SC posts?
I want to know that, where should I start? For example, I start reading GMAT club SC forum, then should I start from the very first SC question in the forum and then solve it first by myself and then compare my approach with others? Is it the right way?
Please suggest.
Thanks,
Chaitra

You already have done OG12 right so why not start with question that you did wrong since you got only 60% right.
you can pick up OG 10 as well attempt them and search for there solution if you are confused with the explanation given in OG itself.
you can pick Verbal O.G Review, 1000SC Questions and also Brutal SC questions which are already available here in the Gmat Club with solution.
It is upto you to decide what is best for you..... :-D
Another thing if you want to search for any question, search that question in Google and you will get links related to the question for all the forums......

I more thing you can do is Make a list which includes all the words that you think can create problem in sentence correction question For ex: the fact is ,being, have ,has ,had ,ing, that , will ,would , if , and so on whatever you remember and when you face a problem and that word to this list.
that will also help in pin pointing the area where the problem may appear...

Hi amneetpadda,

Thanks for your detailed reply. I will try to do the wrong questions again.
Great tip of making list. Will follow that.

Just want to know, how you study from the forum posts..Asked similar question my earlier post too.
Do you pick any question from SC forum and then read the solution to it? or you first try to solve it?

Yes Pavle, I have used CR Bible and that has improved my accuracy n CR.
Thanks for all your support and suggestions.

Hi all

Am new to this Forum.

I plan to take GMAT by this year end.

I was going through another forum where people were discussing about e-gmat,an online course on SC.

DOes anybody have any idea about this?

Few people were very happy with their online material.

According to them they were able to improve their performance in SC from 60% to 80+

Do you pick any question from SC forum and then read the solution to it? or you first try to solve it?

See I attempt the question from the all the 1000SC, Brutal SC and any question that is marked as tough, tricky or 700 plus Question in this forum and attempt first on my own and than compare it with the other users solution.

If I don't find the solution helpful on one forum, I try to search them on other forums and see there solution just for ur help
U can go to following site after attempting the 1000SC question
https://thousandsc.blogspot.com/
https://gmatsentencecorrection.blogspot.com

and see the solution from both
but do this only after you have completed og10,12 and verbal.

I hope this helps

Hi anirudhsaraf7

I am no genius but i can advice you onething try to do OG12 and OG10 first for verbal and give GMAT Prep test.
and you may find your accuracy more than 80% in that case i don't think you will require any other course or material.

First Complete OG if you find that you are still not performing as you desire than you can think of going for other material.

Both editions of the OG Verbal are generally easier than the verbal sections in OG12.

@amneetpadda

Thanks amneet
I will finish up OG12 first.
I am studying from manhattan SC and i take up corresponding questions from OG12.

My problem is that when i do OG my hit rate is 50%.
Once finishing manhattan SC should i re do the OG and then check my hit rate?

Treat OG12 like holy scripture do it as many times as you can but try to understand the reason why one option over scores the other options as well.
It depends upon you mate if you are applying the rules correctly then your hit rate might go up to 90%.

If you know the reason only than you can perform well.

PS: I am no Verbal guru I am just sharing with my thoughts

I did Verbal OG and got 25 incorrect out of 113.... i don't think that is bad start but that is not a good start either....:P
