I hope they provide a sample link to the "whiteboard"- at least that way we can get used to the whole thing.

They did have a link: https://home.pearsonvue.com/Documents/T ... rview.aspx
but it leads to a 404 error - page not found :-o

Gosh, what a terrible start for something that seemed like a thought through solution in those extreme times. Neither does the registration process work probably, nor is this "not note-taking policy" anywhere near acceptable. Surely, many test takers will not be able to maintain their former avg. time/question with this extreme obstacle.

I just tried a whiteboard online and trust me it took me close to 2 mins for a simple sub-600 quant question. I wonder what will it take to solve a 700 level question.

The scratchpad will work in off-line mode, so you can draw stick figures and doodle around - be prepared to explain your drawings when internet connection resumes

I think, it is the burning question for so many peoples. There are so many places where electricity is disconnected (internet is also going to be disconnected due to electricity problem) for long time. If GMAC does not confirm it, people may not be motivated to take GMAT in home!

Also, passport issue is another important issue for the pandemic-most of the passport office are closed. People are totally unable to renew their passport.

No access to a scratchpad is a major handicap in the online exam and also 2 hrs without a break and access to drinking water is inhuman.

I think you're allowed to have a glass with clear fluid (vodka?) at your table, but thats it.

The online Whiteboard sample is available. Here is how the whiteboard will look like.

The link is here if someone wants to check it out.

We gotta click on an icon to open the whiteboard page, which means when we open the whiteboard we no longer can see the question? A total joke if that is the case.

This is being handled so poorly by GMAC. They didn't even take the time to consider candidates with extra time accommodations. SMH. Given all of the constraints and nuances associated with taking this from home, I'm 100% skipping out on this "opportunity" if you even want to call it that, and waiting until the testing centers open back up. They had me at no writing. This is a joke of an exam.

I think that all the whiteboard thing is unacceptable.

Come on, how do they expect you to do equations, simplifications, divisions, multiplications, etc. For example, imagine how much time and visual consuming would be to write the square root symbol (SQRT each time?). Unbelievable.

At the very least they should give you access to a "practice" whiteboard so you get used to it.

Very unhappy with the GMAC.

Do you cannot cancel it at that point.

If you decide not to send the scores to any schools, will they still see the online GMAT if we decide to take the in person GMAT when the center opens again? I have a few official scores so I was wondering if this score would make it on the score report.

I find it very unfair that we will be forced to use an online whiteboard instead of an actual whiteboard or erasable pad. The GRE is allowing whiteboards online - why should we be forced to figure out a new system? This puts online test takers at a severe disadvantage. This is a time constrained test, and many test takers already struggle with time. Now I have to use a trackpad or mouse to draw, which will inevitable take longer than writing by hand, something that all other GMAT testers before us were allowed to do? What is the use in this? It doesn't make sense and it is NOT fair.

I hope that others studying for the GMAT are outraged about this and that they petition GMAC for the use of actual white boards.

Not to mention they don't tell us our scores immediately and let us cancel...

How is this equitable?!

This online whiteboard thing is ridiculous for quant. Why can't we:
a) have erasable board
b) have regular pen and paper and send them a snapshots of what we wrote at the end of the quant section.

I think the online whiteboard might work for verbal, but for quant?!

Can’t use iPad per the tech requirements.
Not unless you can Run windows or MacOS on them ;)

This link is supposed to allow you to run a System Test but it is not working right now :(

I wholeheartedly agree with you. It seems AWA would be a perfect take-home assignment.

But it also looks like they will be using a different set of questions for this test (since it does not count towards the annual or lifetime limit and cannot be retaken) so they may optimize questions that don’t require as much scratch paper work... though still, I found it very helpful for Berbal to have ABCDE on it....

isaacnewton1234 wrote:
Honestly the AWA is the only section that would have seamlessly transitioned to an at-home test format and they cut the section out. I get the AWA isn’t as important as the others, but how is anybody supposed to take quant/verbal/IR with an online whiteboard anyways?? An AWA score would be the only comparable score coming out of this situation.
