I used OG material for both sections and got the Manhattan prep to help with verbal.

However I didn’t do any courses it was all self taught. My mock exam scores were around 620-650 but on exam day I got
V26 Q24 !! So terrible

In addition to seeking advice in this thread, take a look at the GMAT Club reviews for the best quant and verbal courses, and also read through some GMAT success stories to see what materials have worked well for other test-takers.

Also, would you like some general advice on how to improve your verbal and quant skills?

Good luck!

--powerscore CR bible book is not bad;
--interact (best materials, i guess)-->paid version
for RC
--powerscore RC bible is perfectly fine book;
--sandeep gupta's RC videos from youtube (if don't find, knock me pls)
for SC:
--read manhattan prep's forum (specially Ron's explanation)
--read best kudos post from gmatclub forum!

Hi RJVB,

I'm sorry to hear that Test Day did not go as well as planned. When these types of score drops occur, the two likely "causes" involve either something that was unrealistic during practice or something that was surprising (or not accounted for) on Test Day. Before we discuss any of those potential issues though, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi there,

My first time posting on this.

What’s the best gmat prep books to use for both Quant and Verbal?

I attempted the GMAT and got the worst score I’ve ever gotten (with doing all the practice tests from the OG as well as the free ones from Kaplan and Veritas Prep).

My math is strong and English weaker but from my scores I saw the opposite. However I did panic in the online exam and as math was first that got the worst hit which made me push harder for the verbal section.

I’m aiming for a 650.

Hi RJVB,

Instead of books, I suggest you to choose a good online course which can provide you all the content on a single platform. If you use books, you have to shuffle across multiple resources for concepts, methods, questions and their solutions. And as GMAT is an adaptive test, books won't be very helpful for you to take adaptive quizzes.

I personally used GMATWhiz online course and found it very good. It helped me improve my score from 570 to 680 to 720. So, you can check that out if you want. All the best :)

Hi RJVB,

Before I suggest you the resources, I would like to know what exactly are you struggling with. Knowing your weak areas is the first step in the process of improving your score. And if you are just looking for a resource that will help you to practice questions, then I'm afraid that you are not doing your prep in the right way. The right way to prepare is by learning the right methods to solve questions and then practicing a few questions of that topic to get comfortable with the methodology.

So, choose a resource which can help you with
  • Methodology
  • Standard questions to practice with detailed solutions (Most of your learning happens during the analysis of solution)
  • Working on weak areas
  • Study plan

I think an online course would be much better because you can access all the content on one place. The best way to choose an online course if by checking out the free trial of the courses and then decide the one which suits you better. You can go through this article to understand a few key factors that you should keep in mind while evaluating the online courses.

If you are open to suggestion, I would suggest you to check out the free trial of GMATWhiz. And before that, I would like to have a detailed discussion with you regarding your weak areas and the way your approached questions till now so that I can understand your concerns and guide you in a better way. You can get in touch with me using the below link.
