hi all
What resources should one follow to start over a good preparation for gmat? I have to complete my preparation in five months. My score requirement is 650. Should I follow any test prep?

A candidate should go through a number of things to have a good preparation for GMAT. First of all, the Manhattan prep strategy guides must assist with all the concepts required for the test. Besides, you can buy or manage the GMAT official guides giving you the savor of the real test.

You can find free video solutions of quant problems from the best source such as https://gmatquantum.com/official-guides/og13/ , and for verbal you can see the solution of experts from GMAT club.

TTP is a superb course for quant and you see the free trial session. You can buy empower the GMAT course because it is a comprehensive course for SC, RC and CR as well.

Hi lalmatia,

It sounds like you're just starting out. Is that true? Have you done any studying so far?

If you're just beginning, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can access 2 for free from www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a bit of practice first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the general content and question types first, then that's fine - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. A FULL CAT takes about 3.5 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have those scores, you should report back here and we can come up with a study plan.

To help you to establish your own expectations, you should know that most Test Takers spend 3 months (or more) studying for the GMAT; during that time, it's common to spend 10-15 hours per week (or more) on the process.

I'd like to know a bit more about your timeline and goals:
1) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
2) What Schools are you planning to apply to?
3) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

You have 5 months. You have a lot of time to figure things out. There is a lot of material and knowledge you can glean directly from this forum to that end :)

5 months is a decent timeline for a 700+ score in GMAT.

I would suggest you prepare in the following manner:
1. Resources:-
- Official Guide for GMAT (Latest version)
- GMATClub verbal and quantitative guide books
- Manhattan prep guide books for CR, RC and SC in verbal, and PS and DS in quant. Manhattan prep materials also give you access to a set of GMAT mocks, and will be useful in the coming months.

2. Strategy:-
a) Start with a GMAT diagnostic test. Use the Official guide's diagnostic test to understand your relative strength in different areas of the GMAT
b) Start your preparation by building concepts in the relatively weaker areas, and brush up concepts in strong areas
c) Practice questions strategically. Since you have the luxury of time, I would suggest to pace practice out well. Remember that giving too much time to GMAT can become a bane, as you tend to forget concepts. Keep this in mind and practice well
d) Towards the end you must avail of GMATPrep full length mocks, as they give the closest estimate of your scores
e) Start giving mocks when you reach a decent level of accuracy, improve your score in steps
Once you reach above your target score, take the plunge.

Good luck in your preparation.

Thanks,
Romit
