Hello, it came to my attention that some members were cheating by posting questions on Facebook groups and other social sites, begging for solutions and using other people’s ideas and answers. As the result, to discourage and dismiss unfair practices, we are changing some of the rules:

  • On Thursday at 8 AM PST, (in about 12 hours) we will post 8 questions. Then at 9 AM, we will post 8 more questions.
  • You will now have only 1 hour after questions are posted to receive points for posting an explanation. For example, if we post a question at 8 AM, you will NOT receive Kudos for your explanation if you post it after 9 AM the same day. Similarly, if we post a question at 9 AM, you will not receive Kudos for an explanation to that question after 10 AM. You will have 1 hour to solve 8 questions and post explanations – conditions somewhat similar to the real GMAT test.
  • Kudos for the explanations will be given within 24 hours of question posting and points will be awarded as usual.
  • Thursday evening questions will follow the same timeline – only explanations given within 1 hour of question posting will receive Kudos

I apologize for these changes and lack of notice. I am sure it is inconvenient for some but unfortunately there are selfish individuals among us that ruin fun for everyone. I feel the only way to preserve the spirit of competition and to make it fair is to make it hard to cheat.
And if we still catch someone cheating by copying the work of others, we will not hesitate to eject them from GMAT Club :-o

Thank you and good luck
BB

Will we have 16 questions on Friday also?
Does it mean we will have 32 questions a day?

How could it be 32 questions in a day if 16 are on Thur and 16 are on Friday (but I did not say anything about Friday by the way) :-P

FYI - the changes are not taking place for another 12 hours, so no changes for Wed evening questions that have just been posted. I know there are a lot of dates/times/time zones floating around so just FYI.

The news of cheating is very bad news. The competition is now compromised and the scores cannot be trusted. Cheating is always a strong possibility and measures could have been taken earlier based on past experiences of this competition. Not placing blame on the hardworking folks here, just disappointing to see cheats go to this extent to ruin the experience for everyone.

I would completely understand and respect you if you walked out and stopped participating in your protest to how poorly this competition has been organized and that cheating has not been prevented.
You have this choice and just for my wisdom, what measures are you talking about? Do you have a few examples to share? I would be happy to consider all of them.

All this while I assumed only explanations given within 1 hour of question posting will receive Kudos !!!

I never knew we would get kudos if we posted the explanation after an hour!

Now I get how people are posting long explanations that are formatted and colour coordinated. Since, I have difficulty posting all explanations( though incomplete @ times owing to lack of time) for the 4 questions within an hour!

Thanks for the initiative bb! Eager to see how this change is gonna impact the tournament!! :)

Thanks for pointing out this and yes the competition should be fair for all bb

But only with long and good explanations we receive kudos.

My time taking ability for questions-

At most 1-4 minutes for each question = 16 minutes

and at least 5-7 minutes for writing explanations=35 minutes

It will take at least 50 minutes - so please either reduce questions from 8 to 6 or please remain as it is 4 question in 1 hour.

Read the last couple of posts. I feel extremely sad that this platform is accused of unfairness .
GMAT Club for me is the only website that is free , has plethora of questions and gives you hundreds of thousands of question to prepare and practice.
Please respect the community that has given you so much.

Last year the similar competition was organised and despite having its own initial challenges, it was well appreciated and respected by all participants. We infact shared jokes about those challenges on the topic.

It is dis-heartening to see that how the moderators are put on spot and asked to explain every decision. Please understand the human limitation and professional commitments of moderators.

Request: Please let the forum be as fun loving and as exciting as it is and stop criticizing. If you have a feedback leave on the concerned topic and believe me your feedback would be read , evaluated and acted upon if needed. ( My personal experience)

Public forums are a great source to collaborate people working for a same goal but do not abuse them.

Please come on time so you have the full hour. You will have 7 mins per question. Try to be to the point and follow the GMAT pace.

I understand it is tight and i will be understanding in the review of explanations.

Thank you.

I am with you urshi on this one. Funnily, bb I thought the same as well since the first statement below the questions was always this:

(You have one hour from the time of posting to earn Bonus HOT Points for the Timer and Explanations. Note that your explanations will be hidden for 24 hours until the OA is revealed.)

Hence, I would scramble to write up the explanations and try to be detailed and in some cases could never finish posting explanations all 4 questions :)

This is a much needed move, bb.

This will also help people who are sincere in their efforts to write good quality and detailed solutions get due credit for their hard work while people who have been cutting corners, cheating, or uploading sub-standard solutions will get filtered.

Look forward to continuing with the the new rules in place.

BB

All this while I assumed only explanations given within 1 hour of question posting will receive Kudos !!!

I never knew we would get kudos if we posted the explanation after an hour!

Now I get how people are posting long explanations that are formatted and colour coordinated. Since, I have difficulty posting all explanations( though incomplete @ times owing to lack of time) for the 4 questions within an hour!

Thanks for the initiative bb! Eager to see how this change is gonna impact the tournament!! :)

Hi bb,

Make it two hours, busy work schedule does not permit first session of questions to be done on time. This is the case wd me :0

Or push the time 1 hour firward , if possible lol I don't think that will happen though !
