Should we post the explanation within one hour of posting of these questions in order for the explanation to be valid for receiving kudos, which earn 100 points bonus each?

Hello, it came to my attention that some members were cheating by posting questions on Facebook groups and other social sites, begging for solutions and using other people’s ideas . As the result, to discourage unfair practices and make this competition more similar to the real GMAT, we are changing some of the rules:

  • On Thursday at 8 AM PST, (in about 12 hours) we will post 8 questions. Then at 9 AM, we will post 8 more questions.
  • You will now have only 1 hour after questions are posted to receive points for posting an explanation. For example, if we post a question at 8 AM, you will NOT receive Kudos for your explanation if you post it after 9 AM the same day. Similarly, if we post a question at 9 AM, you will not receive Kudos for an explanation to that question after 10 AM. You will have 1 hour to solve 8 questions and post explanations – conditions somewhat similar to the real GMAT test.
  • Kudos for the explanations will be given within 24 hours of question posting and points will be awarded as usual.
  • Thursday evening questions will follow the same timeline – only explanations given within 1 hour of question posting will receive Kudos

I apologize for these changes and lack of notice. I am sure it is inconvenient for some but unfortunately there are selfish individuals among us that ruin fun for everyone. I feel the only way to preserve the spirit of competition and to make it fair is to make it hard to cheat.
And if we still catch someone cheating by copying the work of others, we will not hesitate to eject them from GMAT Club :-o

This is not a good solution for everyone.

8AM and 9AM PST is midnight and 1AM in the morning where I live, South Korea.
Even though I’m dedicated to this competition, waking up until 2 am is unrealistic.
I’ve worked so hard for this competition. Although I’ve had the disadvantages because of the time differences, missing Hot points and instagram bonus questions, I’ve laboured to put my rank on 13th, where I am now, without any complaints that this competition is made not regarding different time zone.
But this is too much. If this new rule is implemented, the time I’ve devoted for this competition will disappears. Not to mention my rank will plummet.
How can you expect variety of people to participate this competition if you don’t regard minorities such as people who lives totally different time zone.
I send PM to BB for this matter, but I haven’t received any reply from him.

Hope you take this matter into your consideration BB.

Please rethink about new rule. There will be another solution to hamper cheaters.

Dear bb ,

As writing providing detailed explanation takes too much time. In both 1 hour round ; able to explain 5 out of 8 Questions.

I hope; this trend will not continue on friday. Very difficult to give proper explanation within this time frame.

Hectic. No time to write good explanations. Lots of guessing. Internet and other disruptions. The 8AM postings were particularly hectic.

Very non-GMAT like but "fun" to race your heart to dangerous levels :dazed :shock: :roll:

The evening questions will posted as usual. We will post 4 questions at 8 PM PST.

To summarize: we have made two changes to the competition:
1) Introduced additional questions in the morning 8 AM slot on Thursday and Friday.
2) The time to receive kudos for explanations has been reduced to one hour for all questions posted after 8 AM PST on Thursday.

The evening questions will continue to be posted as before and we will post morning questions tomorrow. We will have additional questions tomorrow morning and we will have questions tomorrow evening. The only two changes are the ones mentioned above
