Hi,

I scored 720 (V36, Q50). I am lagging on SC portion. Can someone help me on how to improve the score further.

Thanks

Hi jatin0705,

Was this mock exam or real exam. If it was mock exam, then you must have gotten the percentile of each section. Check the percentile in verbal and determine which section needs improvement. Also please make sure you do review all your mistakes (very important to review the mistakes). It might give you the information of if you lacked in some concept or was it timing issues or silly mistakes etc...Then you can work on those improvement areas.

Hope it helps.

Hi jatin0705,

I will recommend what I tell everybody on the forum.
Try eGMAT. It is the best online course,in my opinion, for Sentence Correction.
Also, it is reasonably priced at around 69\$.

The entire course is in the form of videos and is followed up by questions
which test your understanding of the concept

Take a free trial of the course which will give you access to certain videos which
will help understand if this methodology works for you.

You could also use the Aristotle SC Grail(specifically to review your SC concepts)

Hope this information helps you!

P.S if this was not a mock, buy the ESR to understand what is the problem?

Hi jatin0705! thought I would take this opportunity to mention that our sentence correction book Sentence Correction Nirvana is perhaps the only book that offers a score improvement guarantee, and is especially designed for non-native speakers.

After reading the book twice (yes! it's an academic book, and so must be read twice in all seriousness, to reinforce the concepts), you will start looking forward to solving SC questions!

The book is available on Flipkart and Amazon.in. You might want to refer to these sites, to also read testimonials of how readers have benefited.

See here how Mohit, who scored 750 on GMAT, vouches for our book.

If you want to sample a chapter before deciding to go ahead with our book, please PM me your mail-id (along with the chapter that you would like to sample) and I will be happy to send that chapter to you by mail. In addition, the entire Grammar section of the book is also available for free preview at pothi.

Hi Jatin,

The best way to improve is to drill down deep. Try to drill down into each problem type to ace them.

SC: The questions test various concepts such as S-V agreement, modifiers, parallelism etc. Find out what troubles you. As a general guide line, you can start solving a question by taking the following things in consideration:

1. Find out the subject and the verb
2. See that the S&V agree in number
3. Look out for the modifiers
4. Look out for parallelism
5. Look out for usage of certain words - such as vs like, few vs less etc.

CR: There might be certain types of questions that are troubling you. May be Assumption, may be conclusion, inference etc.
You need to find that out and then practice them
RC: This again can be drilled down into different types of questions and also different topics. See what questions and topics trouble you the most and then practice accordingly.
Quants: Again try to break the questions in topics such as Algebra, Number system (very important), Geometry, PnC etc.

As an addition, start preparing an error log and keep a note of all the mistakes you made and the lessons you learnt from the problems. This will ensure you do not make the same mistake again.
