Hi globaldesi,

Whether the program is suited to your needs depends on what you intend to do post the MBA.

Yes, people with a similar background do apply for 1-year programs.

All the best!

Hello asthagupta,

Thanks for posting.

You do have a vanilla IT profile and in order to stand a decent chance, you will really need to produce a set of stellar essays with career goals that flow out logically from your current experience.

With regard to your GMAT score, you are about 10 points below the average score at these schools. Thus, showcasing a spike in other factors becomes all the more necessary. In this regard, building your profile in the upcoming months both on the professional front and the extra-curricular front will be important.

We strongly recommend that you focus on building your profile and working on your essays; put your best foot forward on both fronts.

Should you feel the need for a detailed discussion, feel free to reach out to us.

All the best!

Hi globaldesi

- You should ideally try to raise your score a bit for the top IIM GMAT-based programs.
- The one year MBA format is ideal to help someone like you transition from investment banking tech to the business side of the industry. Given your background, you would also find good roles in FinTech and even in the IT divisions (though at a more senior position and in a business role) of banks.

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed.

Hi rcpggmat

Your onsite experience can help set you apart here, but a couple of things to keep in mind:
- If looking for a PhD, maybe go directly for that. No point getting an MBA first.
- If looking at the MBA instead, be a bit careful on school selection, as you have 12.5+ years of experience already. IIMC/A are better bets. If you do decide on this path, a score of 680+ (preferably 700+) will put you in contention.

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed.

Hi pinakinanda

Thanks for posting. You have a strong profile, with rich international experience. The only slight factor here is the quantum of work-ex - at 17+ years, you would be among the most experienced applicants. Your goals are plausible, but you may need to think them through more deeply - for example, it would be tough to make a lateral move to a consulting firm at your experience level, unless you are already in consulting. Telecom/VAS roles are more feasible. Please shed more light on your current role and responsibilities.

Hi DClifelonglearner

Thanks for posting.
- Overall academics, and work profile (though from the over-represented IT pool, but the international experience helps) is decent. If all of your projects have been insurance-specific, that may be a slight issue, as the IIMs typically look at a broad base of client industry exposure. Still, it will not be a showstopper.
- You will also need to look a bit more carefully at your post-MBA goals. With ~10 years of experience in IT, project management is something you could get into anyway. Need to have a deeper goal and connect it better to an MBA.
- The GMAT score to target should be 720 and above, and this is primarily because the IT pool is quite competitive.
- Please also go through this article as it will help you better understand the landscape for IIM (Indian IT Male :) ) applicants.

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed.
