In a set S = {x, 12, 12, 12, 14, 10, 8}, is $$x$$ positive?

(1) The mode of $$S$$ is greater than the mean of $$S$$
(2) The mode of $$S$$ is greater than the range of $$S$$

Mode = 12

(1) The mode of $$S$$ is greater than the mean of $$S$$
—> Mean of S < 12
—> (x + 68)7 < 12
—> x + 68 < 84
—> x < 16

So, x can be positive or negative
—> Insufficient

(2) The mode of $$S$$ is greater than the range of $$S$$
—> Range of S < mode
—> 14 - x < 12
—> 14 - 12 < x
—> x > 2

So, x is always positive
—> Sufficient

IMO Option B
