Hey y'all,
Now that I'm done R1 apps, I thought I'd pass along info for an inexpensive but good essay editing service i used.
He doesn't have a website yet, but the email is: tim@editingu.com
For context, I've used 2 admissions consultants in the past. In the first case the price was good but the advice wasn't so hot. In the second, I received solid essay feedback, but felt like it cost waaaay too much. Having spent many hours working on apps and reading info on this forum, I felt comfortable with my grasp of the application process, but I just wanted someone I had confidence in who was independent of me and could help me with grammar, typos, flow, and word count (because I do believe that essays are like farts, you can't tell when your own stink*). I happened across Tim's info on the BW forum and gave him a try. In the parlance of Goldilocks, it was "just right".
This isn't the person for you if you want someone to write it all for you, or if you have no idea about the strategy for your apps, but if you're in a similar boat as me it's a good middle ground.
At the time of this post, he charges $50 per hour, and as a reference point he spent just over 2 hours editing my NYU essays 1 & 2 (bear in mind that they smelled great when I sent then to him, to me at least). From what I received back I kept the bulk of his edits and rejected some, but in the end had essays I felt great about submitting.
Just for the record, i have no affiliation and receive no benefit from any referrals. Just wanted to pass along useful info for my GC friends.

Having done an MBA and MPhil myself, I saw an opportunity to edit admissions essays for prospective students at a price and quality I myself would pay. Thus I’ve created a company Impact Essay for the same.
The current market of consultants and editors are extremely expensive or poor quality. Tropically for the entire MBA admission cycle 6-8 colleges and scholarships you should be paying no more than 500 dollars in my opinion,
The best part is 80 percent of the matter has to come from you. The 20 percent that is critique, commentary, tone and creativity shouldn’t cost you an arm and a leg.
Just my two cents!

I strongly believe that an MBA applicant shouldn’t opt for a pure “essay writing” service but rather a comprehensive process to make an application that differentiates aspirants from a competitive pool of applicants. A process which helps to discover one’s strengths and play to them. For an MBA admission or even for that matter even a job interview, it is imperative to have a strong “core” which then makes the rest of the journey easier. And of course, while you are at it, it is always useful to get the application essays reviewed by a second pair of eyes.
I am an independent consultant who helps aspirants go through this journey to enable them to bring out the best in them. I have gone through the same process and got Interview invitation from all B-schools I applied to, even getting 100% Fee assistance from a US top 30 B-school.
My services include conducting sessions with individuals for self-introspection, understanding career goals, essay prompt discussion, essay editing and review and overall application check. And I don't charge a bomb, like I was charged when I used a service during my own process.
