As of now, I'm aiming for a high score in GMAT alone
that is scheduled in May,2018

My profile has its own drawbacks.
The major one being my employment gap and the second one --- my undergrad CGPA.

Now to cover these up to a certain extent,
do you think the essay alone is going to play a major role?

I would like an expert's insight into this.

You should get back to full time employment. May 2018 is 6 months away and that means you will apply in September/ October next year. That's almost another year. MAke it professionally productive .

You have a good GMAT score of 700+ and a good number of years of work experience. ISB evaluates profiles based on the academics, GMAT score, work experience, your essays and your extra curricular activities. If you can justify why you quit your job, and write well drafted essays, highlight your strengths, you definitely have a chance.

Hi synnyatri,

Thanks for sharing your profile.

While is your GMAT is slightly more than the avg. GMAT of ISB pool, your under graduate GPA is on the lower side. As far as work experience is concerned, oil and gas as an industry will definitely interest the admission committee. However, you will need to explicitly call out how your experience is unique from those of others from the same industry. You can do so by differentiating yourself in terms of leadership experience, innovation, P&L impact on the firm etc

Your short and long term goals also need to have clarity in terms of where you want to see yourself post ISB, how have your current experiences influenced your decision such a career goal and what role will a MBA from ISB help you attain your goals.

Overall, with a well articulated application, you have a good chance of getting an interview invite from ISB.

I am an ISB alum,CO14, and have been assisting applications in their admission journeys to global business schools through my venture CrackAdmission (www.crackadmission.com). You can reach out to me at arijit.biswas@crackadmission.com / +919701215544 in case you want to have a detailed discussion.

Wish you the very best !
Cheers

Good Evening All,

I am planning to apply for ISB Hyderabad. It would be really helpful if I could get some advice on my profile:

Academics:

Graduation: B. Tech - 8.30
10th: 80 %
12th: 82.8%

I have 3.5 years of experience in Accenture as Software Developer, in Insurance domain.

What score would be appropriate for me to get a call from ISB?
Please advise.

Thanks,
Vicky

Hi Vicky, my 2 cents.

There is no minimum marks, but I think you should target 700+ to be in the competitive pool.

But that's just one part. 2 other parts are professional and leadership experiences....

For the Academic Bucket, GMAT will matter a lot since its been 7 years you are out of college. Hence try taking some courses to achieve 700+ score, I think that will put you in the safe zone for this bracket. Rest hugely depend on your resume and essays.

Things look good at your end. You haven't posted much about your work experience, so I will not be able to comment upon that. I'd ask you to be very sure about the goals, oil and gas recruitments have not been very easy. Do your research very well.

Hi Satrupa,

You have a rather good profile. I can say from my experience of helping applicants apply successfully, that females with your kind of experience on the shop floor are viewed favorably by admissions committees. So, you are starting off at an advantageous position.
keep up the good work professionally and get involved in some volunteering activities- they add dimension to your profile.

Now, I'd like to ask you, why aren't you applying in the R2 cycle? You have the perfect level of work experience even now. All you need is a good GMAT score.

Please provide Profile Evaluation - ISB (for 2019-2020 Batch) - I know its early, but have to plan

I presently work in a Public Sector Bank as Senior Manager
Total Work Experience - 08 years (in Bank) and 04 Months (in IT - Cognizant as Programmer Analyst Trainee)

In Bank, Joined in December 2009 as Assistant Manager and then got first Promotion to Manager in September 2013, second promotion to Senior Manager in July 2017.

As Assistant Manager I have worked in Credit Dept. handled loans of all kinds Retail, MSME etc.
As Manager, I headed 03 Branches - 01 Urban,01 Rural and one Metro Branch as Branch Manager.
Presently, as Senior Manager I am now posted in a Metro Branch as Second Line Manager presently assisting Assistant General Manager in all the dept (operations, advances, deposits).

I have worked in 07 different cities and four different states in almost all parts of country during this tenure.

I also completed Distance learning PGDM from IMT,Ghaziabad - CDL (as we get extra marks for completing PGDM during promotion in Bank)-- Should I mention it in my application?

Present Certifications (External - awarded by Indian Institute of Banking and Finance)-
Certified Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB)
Diploma in Treasury, Investment and Risk management in Banks
Certificate in Digital Banking
Certificate in International Banking
Certificate in Trade Finance

Qualifications -
PGDM (Distance Learning)- 2012 to 2014
BE (Electronics and Telecom Eng) - 2004 to 2008 - 81.80% (Excluding 1st year marks) ; 84.10% (including 1st year marks)
12th - CBSE - 72%
10th - ICSE - 78.33%

Extra Curricular - School Quiz Winner (GK, Memory test), Head Boy of House (Blue)..."dont know if its relevant"
College - Co-editor in Department magazine.

Hobby - Cooking (I love it!!! Stress Buster for me)

What should be a good score in GMAT and whether Public Sector Banks profile stand chance as I do not have corporate background...

Why MBA? - I have been working in credit department for a long time and have processed many kinds of loans - In public sector, we are more like generalists...and not particularly specialist in a single type of work and though I worked in credit department but we can easily handle day to day branch operations/deposits/locker/clearing/customer complaints/NPA recovery/Suit Filing at DRT/Civil Suits and any other miscellaneous dept. as and when need arise. MBA will help me to make a career shift and I can use this immense work experience to add to my knowledge.

Awards -
Received Appreciation Letter as Branch Head for performing Best in Retail loans in State - 02 times
Received Appreciation Certificate - Black Belt - Overall Performer
Received Internal "Hindi" Implementation Award - Second prize in Urban Branch Category all over India
Received Appreciation Letter for successfully Implementing "Demonetization" with Zero Customer Complaints as Branch head
Received Appreciation Certificate for performing excellent in NPA recovery Campaign.

I have not seen any of my colleagues who wants to pursue MBA full time because a Public Sector Bank provides excellent Job Security and their long term plan is to continue with the present Bank. Though I think differently, Bank has provided me with immense exposure to almost so many industries (MSME, Mid corporate, Large corporate), government machinery (functioning), Police, Courts, etc and I want to use this knowledge for better understanding of businesses through Formal Education.

International Experience - NIL (cant do anything about it as the opportunity is very less).
Voluntary Social Work - Done with the help of Bank (mostly in the area where Branch is located) - also related with Government Sponsored Program's implementation, Conducting Financial Literacy Camps.

Target School - ISB, IIMA.

Please provide your suggestions and comments.

What I did not see from the profile is the clarity of post-MBA goals and Why MBA. This is the most critical aspect for someone who has 8+ years of work ex, like you. My advise would be to a) work on that, and b) aim for atleast 700+
