I really need advice and quickly because this all could happen really fast. I’ve already applied to 4 business schools round 1 hoping to go somewhere next fall. Unfortunately, that is still very far away and I’m pretty unhappy in my current job. I’m not being challenged at all, my quantitative skills are not used as much as in the past, and the environment is well, toxic.
There is this job opening, however, in a different department in my current company that I’m really interested in. I would work 1-1 with the manager, I would learn a TON, I would have the opportunity to master my quantitative skills, and it would really get my critical thinking juices flowing before school.
I want to apply but I’m hesitant because I don’t know how that would look to future employers or, if I started the job before business school interviews, how I should disclose this quick job change to the adcom. The job is actually a step in the right direction for my short-term MBA goals and if I didn’t get into any business school that I applied to, I would be in a good position with this job to reapply in years to follow.
The issue is I have to apply by this Friday because the manager wants to hire very quickly. Should I go for it? How do I explain it during interviews if I take the job? And how would this ~11 month job on a resume look to future employers?

I would say that you should go for it. You really don't know what's going to happen with business schools and I think that's your argument to switch, really you have no bird in the hand with business school at this point.
I think it is understood that we need to do the best we can to improve our lot in the present moment.
On the resume, they will see that you went on to an MBA program so I don't think it's going to be that big of a deal.
Also, most professional resumes do not include the month. If they see one year to another year it wont be that big of a deal, unless you have a track record of job hopping on your resume.
Have you been in this current position for 2 years? If so I would do it. And maybe even if not.
