Neither offer has scholarships
1. BG: Based in Asia, 2 years in Investment Banking and 3 years in PE/VC (Tech-focused, one of the largest funds in Asia)
2. Career Goal: move to US, especially Bay Area, to continue to do Tech investment, I hope to join the Corporate Development of Tech giants (Google, Qualcomm, Intel, Nvidia)
Darden has a relatively higher ranking in MBA, Cornell is Ivy League, has a better reputation in general.
Cornell may have more alumni in Tech industry, because of its famous Engineering School, but alumni may be in different divisions within the Tech companies.
Corporate Development (Investment arm) is quite a niche path, people from Investment Banking or PE joined this division, so maybe Cornell fits well because of its reputation in Investment Banking or PE.
Any suggestions about which one is better? Thanks.

Hi and congrats on your admits!
I see you have had a low profile on GMAT Club
Johnson and Darden are fantastic for iBanking. Johnson has made strong strides in that direction over the past 5-10 years, though most of that is actually happening in New York, Connecticut, Florida or East Coast basically.
Johnson does not report their geographic employment numbers but I would guess it is very similar to Darden with only about 10% going West. Part of the challenge is I am not sure how much hiring of fresh MBA happens into Corp Dev groups. I feel more of that may happen poaching people from McKinsey or iBanking firms. It may be that there is a steady pipeline but if there is, it is not very visible at Darden/Johnson.
As to rankings, I feel they are similar. Some years they are close and sometimes Darden is higher but I feel there is a tug of war and probably not meaningful difference. Both are fairly remote in small college towns and I feel the biggest surface difference is going to be the case study method for Darden. Many people really like that (and some really want to avoid it) so that is the first and easiest options to consider.
I would say a lot of your success after/during MBA will be luck and chance. You may have a classmate who used to work for Google or someone you meet on a flight works at Nvidia that will be complete chance and completely unrelated to which program you pursue, and completely impossible to foresee which one would give you the better edge. I feel Johnson has a bit more added value being Ivy League and better known internationally which may give more oomph for recruiting internationally if you ever decide to leave.
As to alum groups and networks, you are correct that connecting with the engineering school grads or undergrad alums will be less effective and sometimes awkward though you can make it work if that is the last resort.
I think both Schools have a lot to offer and it is a close call but I am very slightly leaning towards Johnson for its international reputation. Your co-workers would likely be more jealous of Cornell rather than Darden 😂

Thank you very much, bb! Your reply inspired me to weigh the two offers from a new perspective. I am quite open to future opportunities, especially Corporate Strategy role, which Tech companies recruit much more MBA students and may potentially lead me to Corp Dev in the long term.
