Q1. It is probably within the reach of human technology to make the climate of Mars inhabitable. It might be several centuries before people could live there, even with breathing apparatuses, but some of the world’s great temples and cathedrals took centuries to build. Research efforts now are justified if there is even a chance of making another planet inhabitable. Besides, the intellectual exercise of understanding how the Martian atmosphere might be changed could help in understanding atmospheric changes inadvertently triggered by human activity on Earth. The main point of the argument is that A. It is probably technologically possible for humankind to alter the climate of Mars. B. It would take several centuries to make Mars even marginally inhabitable. C. Making Mars inhabitable is an effort comparable to building a great temple or cathedral. D. Research efforts aimed at discovering how to change the climate of Mars are justified. E. Efforts to change the climate of Mars could facilitate understanding of the Earth’s climate. Difficulty - Hard

Re: Verbal Question of the Day Chat Group [#permalink]
I have just started with FE preparation. Today is Day 1. I am planning to do CRs first, followed by Quants and then DI and RC. This is because I had 700 on GMAT Classic in September 2023 and messed up the exam only due to CRs. Can someone help out in answering if this is the right strategy? I am not planning on taking any tuitions this time. Have even got the official guide for 2023-2024, and the DI OG too. Have planned on utilizing GMATclub to the fullest. And then take FE Mocks.
Please tweak this method if you have any suggestions.
Thanks in advance :)

How exactly is one supposed to extract learning from the questions they get wrong? In CR I have a hard time extracting any learning from the questions that I get wrong and I just move on to the next one

II think this is the wrong approach

I’d appreciate if someone can provide some inputs on that

Q2. Governments have only one response to public criticism of socially necessary services: regulation of the activity of providing those services. But governments inevitably make the activity more expensive by regulating it, and that is particularly troublesome in these times of strained financial resources. However, since public criticism of child-care services has undermined all confidence in such services, and since such services are socially necessary, the government is certain to respond. Which one of the following statements can be inferred from the passage? (A) The quality of child care will improve. (B) The cost of providing child-care services will increase. (C) The government will use funding to foster advances in child care. (D) If public criticism of policy is strongly voiced, the government is certain to respond. (E) If child-care services are not regulated, the cost of providing child care will not increase.

CR Questions February - 13 :

Q1. A property management company that operates a large townhouse complex has recently implemented a strict new policy that prohibits tenants from having certain breeds of dogs that it deems overly aggressive. The policy will apply only to new tenants and tenants who renew their leases. There has been a steep increase in the number of dog attacks associated with these breeds over the last two years, and the property manager has concluded that the new policy is the only way to reduce the number of attacks. The tenants’ association disagrees, claiming that the new policy will not significantly remedy the situation in the long run.

Which of the following, if true, would most effectively undermine the claim made by the tenants’ association?

A. Similar apartment complexes in the area have been able to effectively reduce the number of dog attacks.

B. There have been some dog attacks from breeds not added to the restricted list.

C. The apartment owner’s insurance policy does not cover any costs associated with dog attacks.

D. More than 90 percent of the current tenants have leases that expire over the next two years.

E. A majority of attacks occurred when tenants did not have proper control over their dogs.

Difficulty - Hard

Q2. Antibiotics prove to be the only effective means of treating some serious diseases. Nevertheless, it cannot be stated that antibiotics are always beneficial for human health, since they are known to reduce immune system activity, and persons with reduced immune system activity are likely to be afflicted by various infectious diseases.

Which of the following statements can be properly inferred from the passage above?

(A)Treatment of some diseases always results in reduced immune system activity.

(B)Antibiotics are the only effective means of treating some infectious diseases.

(C)New medications will be developed in the future to replace antibiotics.

(D)Reduction of immune system activity caused by antibiotics can be avoided by taking some other medications that increase immune system activity.

(E)Antibiotics are the major cause of reduced immune system activity.

Inference is a skill you need to develop on your own. You need to read the argument literally. You cannot assume things which are not stated. Just be subtle

Once you develop this skill you will beg for inference questions in GMAT as the hard inference question could be solved easily within 2 mins

In this particular question, I found it easier to eliminate the wrong choices. So POE could work in some cases like this where elimination is easy
