Hi ytrfedw4

Thanks for the detailed profile!
My name is Shimri Winters, I head the strategy team here at ARINGO
I am a London Business School graduate and used to interview candidates for the school for 7 years.

I really like your background. Although you are missing a GMAT score, I think your chances are high!

From what I can see:
Academics – yes, your Master's GPA is low, but your BA’s GPA is good, and most candidates don’t have a Master’s degree. So, I see this as an advantage!

Work Experience – 3 years in big 4 consulting with a fast0track promotion. GREAT!
All your part-time experiences sound very interested so well done on them all!

Extracurricular activities – Big advantage to be a board member. I am wondering if you have more volunteering experiences? And what about your hobbies? Love the two exchanges!

GMAT and school wish list –very realistic school list if you score a 700+ GMAT score!

All in all,
You have a solid profile. and coming from Denmark (an under-represented country in some of the business schools) will work to your advantage.
The key here is the GMAT and then some stellar applications (we can help with that)

Happy to help further with a detailed review and perhaps work together on some amazing apps, now or when you actually take the GMAT.

As always, I can be reached at Shimriw@ARINGO.com
GOOD LUCK!

Re: LBS Profile Evaluation - Tools for B-School Profile Evaluation [#permalink]
Hi,

I would like to get my profile evaluated and receive suggestions for B-schools that I should target.

I am a 32yr old Indian Male, Commerce graduate, working in Trade Finance at a mid-sized Public Sector Bank in India.

Education:
B Com - 66%
Masters in Financial Services - 6.08/8.0
Certifications:
Certified Associate if Indian Institute of Bankers
Diploma in Treasury, Investment and Risk Management
GMAT:
Yet to write (official GMAT mocks ranging from 660 to 710)

Work Experience:
8 years in commercial banking with exposure to numerous verticals and with clients ranging from small farmers in rural areas to mid- and large corporates in metropolitan cities.

Senior Manager
- Currently working as in-charge of Trade Finance Department
- Contributed 40% of total branch income in F.Y. 2020-21, through Trade Finance operations
- Managed a team of 4-5 people in this period

Manager
- Worked as Branch Manager with a team of 4 people and handled a wide range of portfolios including deposits, retail loans, agricultural loans and small business loans
- Reduced non-performing assets (NPAs) of my branch from 10% to 2% of total loans
- Moved to Mumbai and was introduced to Trade Finance – gained experience working with large and mid-corporates

Assistant Manager
- Joined as Probationary Officer and worked at various locations in multiple roles including Deposits, ATM Management, Cash Management and Jewel Loans
- Was one of the first people in my batch to be selected as Branch Manager and was given charge of a new branch with a team of 3 people

Assistant Manager – Claims (Legal) - worked for 6 months in an Insurance company prior to banking experience
- Managed Motor Accident Claims with responsibilities including managing panel lawyers, local claim investigators, preparing defence for cases and negotiating with claimants for out of court settlements.

Extra Curriculars:
- Conducting Tree-plantation drives and organizing free basic health check-up camps as part of Bank's CSR activities
- Pursuing hobbies in photography and fountain pens

Post MBA Goals:
I hope to stay in the financial services sector and pursue banking after MBA. I am not sure if I will get many opportunities in commercial banking after MBA or even if it would be a suitable choice. I am open to switching jobs but would aim to pursue something finance related.

I am concerned about my relatively low GMAT score. I am aiming for 700+ and will be writing my GMAT in 2 weeks.
In my opinion, UK and European b-schools would be a better fit given my age and target GMAT score. I would like to get some suggestions about which schools I can target. Also, will Canada be a good option for me?

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi varmaaayush,

Thank you for sharing your profile. Your profile looks good on the surface. Starting with the stats, your undergrad GPA is quite low, and you will need to score a high GMAT to compensate for it. Try to aim your score 730+ to maximize your chances. On the work front, your 8 years of experience can provide examples of leadership and impact. I see a good career trajectory, you started as a PO and worked your way up to Manager. You must explain why you were chosen among your peers to lead a new branch. Regarding your ECs, they seem different. I would like to know more about it. Try to dig deeper into your work profile and ECs. I'm sure if you brainstorm these, you will get some awesome stories to help your essays stand out!

Regarding your concern, you should strive for a good GMAT score. You are an older candidate, and most b-schools in the EU and Canada prefer older applicants. HEC and Canadian b-schools such as Rotman, McGill, and Schulich may be on your target list based on your post-MBA goals. It is not usually the GMAT that rules, but schools want prospective students to have leadership qualities and social understanding. As a result, you will need to construct your stories in accordance with the b-school values and how a certain b-school would assist you in achieving your goals. You may want to read an article on mba over 30, it will give you some insight on how to improve your odds if you are 30+ and instill the right confidence in you:)

Overall you have a good profile. What's going to matter most about your application is how you link experiential dots and make a great narrative. If you need more guidance, we are happy to hop on a call with you sometime this week to answer any of your concerns and discuss further chances to the b-schools. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Cheers!

Hello Evaluation Officers,

Request for for a profile evaluation

Demographics: Indian Male applicant (24 years)

Academics:
10th : 92%
12th :77%
Undergrad: 58.15%

Work Experience:
I completed my undergrad degree in 2018 and I have a work experience of 2.5 years with a 6 month internship.

My major (1.5 years) and initial work was with a major app based ride company where I was an intern and was offered a full time employment based on my performance. I dealt with handling critical safety issues and their documentation which came over from all over India. The work cross-operated with social media teams, handling SOS ans VIP ride issues.

During my tenure I divised an independent proejct to tackle fraud which became a successful and ongoing business model. I was active member for training and setting up a new team for my org in a different city which is fully functional now.

My 2nd and recent work experience is working for a major casino and online gambling company. It opened me upto a vast array of languages and culture across Europe. My work involved fraud investigation, monitoring for money laundering where I've had success in discovering multiple fraud rings preventing business losses for my team and it's still my current job.

Extra-curriculars: I was a long term ,active organiser and member for the Literary and Debate club in my college. I was also an active member for the organising committee for the college tech fest for my engineering branch.

Doubts: I feel that my low grad percentage and less than >5 year experience will make me a lower stage application for admission for the major mba programs. I'm willing to work for a good GMAT score to compensate for the low grad score.

I'm not sure about the exact college programs right at this stage now but my first choice has always been the U.K.

Please let me know if I do stand chance to get admitted into a program and what else I may have to add to the profile. I would appreciate all the inputs and feedbacks.

Thanks in Advance !

Hi Wassy

Thanks for the detailed profile!
My name is Shimri Winters, I head the strategy team here at ARINGO
I am a London Business School graduate and used to interview candidates to the school for 7 years.

I agree with your worries:
Your GPA is not high, you have less than average work experience, you are younger than the average student's age, and have no GMAT score
You do have a great job and looks like you are headed for a good career progression and fantastic extracurricular activities
What to do?

Decide if you want to compromise on a mediocre school or wait another 1-2 years (and 1-2 promotions at work, leading to team management and ownership of projects), and apply to a top school.
In both cases, you might need a higher than the schools' average GMAT score so you can overcome coming from an overrepresented background and a low GPA.

I hope this helps. My suggestion is to focus right now on the GMAT, and reach out again when you complete that and decide you are applying (yes, this might be next year or in two years)
You can also send me your CV and GMAT score once you take the exam to shimriw@ARINGO.com and I will try to help with the school selection

GOOD LUCK!

Hi Kharevabs

Shimri from ARINGO here

You seem to be a very experienced professional!

From what I can see:
    Academics – looks great!

Work Experience – seems great! ZS and Novartis are two great brands. Love the promotion as well! And of course, working with international teams!

Extracurricular activities – WOW, a real strength of yours. It is clear you are passionate about many things…

GRE score – I don’t know which schools you are aiming for? 323 is a good score, although, not super high (Around the average for LBS, a bit lower than the M7 school averages). Do you have plans to retake this exam?

All in all,
You have a solid business profile good academics, great extracurricular activities, and ok GRE score. I really need to know which schools you are thinking of applying to, to be able to give you a chances assessment

Happy to help further with a detailed review and perhaps work together on some amazing apps, now or when you decide to apply. As always, I can be reached on Shimriw@ARINGO.com

GOOD LUCK!

Good day!

I would kindly like to request an evaluation of my profile for LBS!

Bio Data
Nationality and Location: Filipino, Philippines
Ethnicity: Half Chinese, Half Filipino
Age: 26
Education: Economics in top university in the Philippines, 3.2 GPA. 7th highest GPA in my course.
GMAT: 700
Work exp: 5 years

Work Experience

Professor of Finance and Accounting in my alma mater, 2019-present
- part-time faculty teaching over 100 students per school year
- taught classes on Fundamental Accounting and Financial Management

Chief of Staff in largest PH edtech startup, 2020-2021
- managed team of 5, working directly under founder to develop business strategies to provide greater access to education for youth
- handled firm's fundraising efforts and investor relations
- left firm to prepare for MBA

Associate in investment bank, M&A, 2017-2020
- promoted every year from first year analyst to associate in 3 years
- spearheaded firm's expansion into startup and VC industry, personally creating the firm's network of VCs in SG and HKG
- deal team lead managing 3 analysts
- staffer for analysts and interns

Hobbies and Interests
- trilingual, travelled to over 30 countries
- chess, bonsai, snowboarding, and road cycling

Post-MBA goals and Why LBS
- Working in finance and edtech has made me interested to pursue a career in impact investing. Experience in the PH has also made me realize there is an alarming lack of capital flowing from international investors into the country.
- MBA will be a means to expand my network and potentially work in a large international fund focused on impact investing. Ultimate goal would be to work in a social impact fund and push for more investments into the Philippines.
- LBS is my top choice since it is located in an international financial center. There is also a path to citizenship in the UK since I have a HKG residency and was born there before the turnover.

Thanks so much! :)

Hi Kharevabs,

Thank you for sharing your profile. Your profile looks good on the surface. Starting with the stats, your undergrad GPA is good. Your GRE score is quite low, you can consider retaking. On the work front, I can see a career progression. You must exhibit the same in your apps. Also, since you have worked with a US-based MNC, your profile has quite international exposure, and if you are effective in presenting stories about how it has widened your viewpoint and changed your personality, it does place you in a good position. Talking about your ECs, they seems good. Speaking about all of this with the right passion can assist you in bringing diversity to your apps. If you could provide some instances of how this has made an impact, that would be wonderful. Overall, a good profile. However, I would like to learn more about your profile, such as your post-MBA goals, impact, and major USPs. If you’d like, we are happy to hop on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and gauge your fit for the b-schools. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Cheers!

WOW, you have such a different and impressive profile!!!

From what I can see:

Origin – sounds like there is a story to your background? GOOD! Being half Chinese and half Filipino can add to your overall story (explaining how you have different heritages, and this helped build your interpersonal skills).

Academics – looks great! 7th in class, always good!

Work Experience – WOW, IB + EdTech Academic teaching? All at a young age! and you manage 5 people? GREAT! Obviously, you need to explain the story of how you shifted from one industry to another. Your promotions are definitely one way to show your excellence. NICE!

Extracurricular activities – WOW, 30 countries are impressive and you are the first candidate I am seeing that states Bonsai as his hobby! Mr. Miyagi would be so proud of you 😊

GMAT score – 700 is definitely a good score for someone with your profile. Yes, it is a bit lower than the LBS average GMAT, but, you can make up for that with other elements of the application. You do need perfect applications, so work with an expert that specializes in LBS and low GMATs (hhmmmm??? ARINGO!)

All in all,
Love your profile! Seems very interesting with a fast-track career trajectory and solid GMAT score. You might want to apply to Oxford and Cambridge and others as a backup but you have, with a Steller application, a real chance at LBS!

Happy to help further with a detailed review and perhaps work together on some amazing apps. I can be reached at Shimriw@ARINGO.com

GOOD LUCK!
Shimri

Hi raynardlao,

Thank you for sharing your profile. Your profile is strong. Starting with the stats, your undergrad GPA is good and a quite good GMAT score. On the work front, your work experience is amazing, packed with career progression, lots of leadership roles, and impact. Your professional experience is valuable and might offer you an advantage if you construct your stories effectively. On the surface, your profile gives a glimpse of a ‘mature leader,’ which is very uncommon. You may want to read an article on how to differentiate yourself in your MBA application essays; you will get the knowledge that will help you increase your chances of being admitted into the desired Business school.

I would advise you to stick to these values for your target school:
1) Global Outlook and ability to work in multicultural teams
2) Clear and Pragmatic Career Goals
3) Strong communication
4) Collaborative leader

You will need to craft your essays keeping in mind the values mentioned above. Your hobbies and interests will help you add diversity to your apps while also exhibiting your lively personality. Your reason for LBS and post-mba goals make sense. Additionally, make sure you list down the gaps that you have identified in your profile that you think an MBA from a school will help you fill to achieve your post-MBA goals. Overall, I believe you are a solid package, and you have a chance at LBS if you can present a well-connected and compelling narrative. If you'd like, we are happy to hop on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and further chances to LBS. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Cheers!

Hi alialmoulah,

Thank you for sharing your profile. Your profile is impressive with strong work experience. Starting with the stats, your undergrad GPA is good, and you have a solid GMAT score. Well done! On the work front, you will need to bring the leadership positions you have held. It will strengthen your case because b-schools prefer individuals who have had leadership positions or demonstrated leadership qualities. I believe your five years of experience should speak about your leadership abilities and impact. Your ECs are impressive and bring a different person than what I see in your professional space. All you have to do is convey it very effectively.

Your post-MBA goals are aligned with your previous work experience, which is a plus. Include how an MBA from a certain b-school can help you address gaps in your profile and achieve your goals. I feel the schools you listed are well within your reach if you provide a convincing narrative. Most Oil&Gas professionals desire to move into consulting after completing their MBA, but they lack the distinctive flavor in their narrative that will make their profile stand out. We have assisted numerous O&G professionals in gaining admission to top business schools such as Insead, Harvard, and LBS. You might be interested in reading the story of a capacity planning manager with a normal profile who makes it to lbs. You will get some insights :)

Overall you have a good profile and have a shot at your target b-schools. If you’d like, we are happy to hop on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and further chances to the b-schools. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Cheers!

Hi vyk44,

Thank you for sharing your profile. Your profile looks good on the surface. Starting with the stats, your undergrad GPA is good. You come from a competitive pool of applicants. I suggest you aim 730+ in your GMAT to maximize your chances. Your work experience seems to be amazing. Working across several functions and being promoted multiple times are great examples of how important you are to the organization. In your applications, you must mention the roles and responsibilities you have taken and the impact they have had on the organization. Your ECs, hobbies, and achievements are interesting and will help you bring diversity to your applications; moreover, adcoms will learn how you contribute to the school's community (if highlighted aptly).

Regarding your post-MBA goals, they are very broad. What differentiates you? Consider this: what is your motivating factor in life? What do you want to accomplish in the long term? Then, consider the short-term goals that will help you achieve your long-term goals. You'll have to put some effort into this. You may want to read an article on how to frame practical post-MBA goals essays, you will get some insights. LBS, Fuqua, Kellogg, and Wharton are all excellent finance schools. Overall, a good profile and have a shot at your targeted b-schools if you can bring amazing stories in your essays and align it with school values.

If you’d like, we are happy to hop on a call with you sometime this week or after your GMAT to discuss your profile in length and further chances to b-schools. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.
