Hi,
I am someone who usually lingers around this website a lot. I am in the last leg of my GMAT retake and I have been pondering over subscribing for the GMAT club tests for a while now but something inside me has been stopping me.
From all the reviews/debriefs that I have read so far on the GMAT club tests on this forum, certain opinions that were common were that these tests are amazing, really helpful, bit higher on the level of questions but still great to analyse/revise/understand concepts tested on the actual GMAT. This is where my concern is. I am someone who is not so comfortable with quants like the back of my hand. I usually do not score in 45-48 category. I am somewhere in 40-45 category, though I am really trying hard to improve this and my aim for the actual GMAT is a reasonable 46-48.
I am not really aiming for a Q51 because I know that it is slightly beyond my capabilities and verbal is where my strength lies and I am working really hard to get V42+. So, to sum up I want to know how useful are GMAT club tests for an average bloke aiming for a Q47-48 in the GMAT who is not very comfortable with advance quants topics/questions. Will it be a waste of precious time during the last leg of my prep or will it help me out in some way? I especially want to hear from someone who has been in my position and took these tests and benefited/did not think the tests helped him out.
Again, my only reason for even considering the GMAT club tests was that I have heard people going ga ga over how amazing the tests are and how helpful they were in improving their quants score. But they were also the people who were probably already in possession of above average maths skills, something I think I lack.
So kindly help me out making a decision. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks

A CAT is a 'measuring device' - when used correctly, it will give you a realistic score and help define your strengths and weaknesses, but it will NOT help you to fix any of those weaknesses. To raise your scores, you have to put in the necessary practice and repetitions. The CAT will show you whether your studies are helping you to improve or not. Thus, if your goal is to raise your Quant Scaled Score, then you're thinking about all of this incorrectly. If you're consistently scoring in the low-Q40s, then 'advanced topics' are not what you need to be working on. Those types of scores mean that you're making lots of little mistakes on 'gettable' questions and missing out on lots of 'strategy-based' points.
1) What study materials have you used so far?
2) On your last practice CAT, how many questions in the Quant section did you get wrong that you COULD have gotten correct?

Hello,
I completely understand your point. Kind of what my problem is. To answer your question, the materials that I have used so far are:
1) OG 2017 and OG quants review
2) MGMAT strategy guides (all 5)
3) GMAT club forum for topic wise practice in different categories
to answer your second question, I have a set of practice tests from this coaching institute that I enrolled for and the last CAT that I gave 2 days ago, I answered 18 questions correctly :/ however, when I did the detailed analysis I found that there were at least 5 questions that I missed out just because I was careless or not paying proper attention. Mistakes like miscalculation, missing something critical in a hurry and assuming that certain combination will give the answer on the DS question and not making the effort of actually solving the entire question and also time management.
