Hi,

I want to understand my chances of landing a top B School admit. I was going through the existing forums on gmatclub and others, and understood that being around 12 years experienced professional, my chances of getting an admit from a top B School are not good.

Can the experts on this forum please help me assess my chances?

My profile in a nutshell:
Total Work exp. - 12 years
Industry - Business Intelligence/Data Analytics
Job Title - Senior Consultant
Qualifications - B.TECH and EPGP (IIM Kozhikode, India)
My Target - European B Schools (basically 1 year programs)

Or should I go for PHD in Business?

Thanks in advance..
Prakhar Gupta

Hello prakhar30088,

Apologies for the delayed response but hope this will be of help to you.

Yes, 12 years of experience is quite on the higher side and will impact your chances.

Having said the above, Europe is a good choice as schools are more open to senior candidates. Frankly, if possible, we would recommend that you have your profile evaluated by some of your target schools. If you are open to other geographies, you could look at the US 1 year MBA programs (that generally prefer students with prior management education).

All the best!

Thanks for your reply.. I did send my profile to some B-Schools in Germany (ESMT, Berlin and ESCP, Paris/Berlin) and they have asked me to apply and given me positive words.
Would it be possible for you to share some programs in US with 1 year which I can look into.. also, I have heard bad things about post study Visa in US as an MBA is not a STEM course. Should I still consider a US MBA?

Germany is ok; in Europe, you may want to check with IMD too. In addition, you can evaluate the Nanyang Fellows program.

Here are the one year MBA options in US. In general, visa issue apart, fit will continue to be an issue at these programs too am afraid.

Thanks for the reply. I am a bit perplexed by the sentence "fit will continue to be an issue at these programs too am afraid" . Do you mean to say my profile does not fit the candidates they are looking for?
If yes, then should I drop the idea of doing an MBA at this point in my career and get busy in my work life, maybe build upon my work profile to qualify for the fellows programs. I was going through the participants profile of these programs - Sloan, Nanyang and these guys are top-notch, like CFOs and Founders..

prakhar30088, by fit I meant the age/experience mismatch.

The Fellows programs attracts a wide variety of folks and I wouldn't say you won't be a good fit even now. Some of them encourage participants to reach out for a profile evaluation. You can also reach out to us, with a resume and profile details, for a deeper look.

Don't lose faith buddy and all the best.

Hi prakhar30088,

Good to know of the positive responses you have received.

There are various MBA programs in the US. You may refer to the following link:

As far as employment and post-study visa issues are concerned, every geography will have its own challenges; so, it's a lot about your personal preferences. :-)

All the best!
