Hi scheemz,

Focusing on your general math skills - before starting on your GMAT skills - is a reasonable choice. For free math practice and help, I recommend that you set up an account at Khan Academy (www.khanacademy.org). The site is completely free and makes the learning a bit more fun and 'game-like' (as opposed to the dry academic approach taken by most books). While the site is vast, you should limit your studies to basic Arithmetic, Algebra and Geometry. After spending a little time re-building those skills, you can restart your GMAT studies.

If you have not already done so, then it would also be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can take 2 for free at www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a little studying first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the basic content and question types, then that's okay - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. That score will give us a good sense of your natural strengths and weaknesses and will help provide a basis for comparison as you continue to study. A FULL CAT takes about 3.5 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have that Score, you should report back here (or you can feel free to contact me directly) and we can come up with a study plan.

I'd like to know a bit more about your timeline and goals:
1) On the GMAT, there's a significant difference between scoring 570 and scoring 650. What is your specific goal score?
2) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?
3) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hey - You can totally stick with your plan. It’s wise to brush your basics and then get a baseline score

Once you have a baseline score at hand, you can then do focused practice either by taking a course or by leveraging the free materials

Best resources
Quant : TTP / Manhattan guides

Verbal:
SC: GMAT Ninja Videos / Manhattan SC book

Hi scheemz,

Regarding your plan forward, I am also curious, have you taken a practice exam to get a baseline score? Also, what is your score goal? In the meantime, here is a helpful article:
