Hi raipriyadarshi,

Thank you for sharing your profile. Starting with the stats, your undergrad GPA is quite good, and a decent GRE score. Let me tell you first on what values Oxford evaluates a candidate’s potential.

Oxford evaluates the candidates based on -

1. Strong professional experience: For being a part of the MBA family at Oxford, one needs a robust work experience that must exhibit exceptional maturity and powerful leadership.

2. Multi-cultural Background: One must have international exposure in one's work with an awareness of different cultures and this quality is exemplified by the mix of its MBA class.

3. Strong Academics: Strong grades show the candidate’s capability to thrive in the rigorous MBA program and a robust GMAT/GRE score exemplifies an aspirant’s quantitative and analytical skills.

4. Insightful Contribution: One must be able to exhibit bold and insightful contributions in work with evidence of career progressions.

You will need to include the values mentioned above in your essays. On the work front, your experience as a data scientist must demonstrate leadership and impact. Oxford places a high value on professional expertise; therefore, you must demonstrate all of the above qualities in your work. Your accomplishments are good. Speaking about your patents will undoubtedly create an interesting discussion between you and AdComs. What are your post-MBA goals? I'm missing a lot of details and a huge picture to evaluate your profile. I'd like to learn more about your profile to provide a thorough evaluation. If you’d like, we are happy to hop on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and further chances to the b-schools. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Cheers!

Hey hiteshdusseja

Your GMAT score of 710 is really impressive and above all your 6.5 years of work experience is just like the icing on the cake. With such an impressive profile I don’t think even Oxford would reject your application. The minimum years of work experience that is required as per international standards is 3 years, so you are all clear on that front.

The following are the requirements for an MBA in Oxford:
All applicants must have earned a recognised undergraduate degree. Each academic year, your mark sheets must outline the subjects studied or grades obtained.
You must have at least two years of full-time work experience, which should be detailed on a one-page CV. If your original transcripts are not in English, an official translation must be provided.
There is no minimum GMAT score, but 650 or higher is considered competitive. Their current class has a GMAT score median of 690.
A GRE verbal score of 160 and a quantitative score of 160 are considered competitive, but all scores are accepted.
TOEFL Minimum Score: 110 English Proficiency Test
    Minimum IELTS score: 7.5
Cambridge Diploma (C1 Advanced) Minimum score: 191
Cambridge Diploma (C2 Proficiency) Minimum score: 191

The following documents are required for an MBA in Oxford:
Academic transcripts for the entire university degree.
A one-page resume highlighting relevant professional experience.
Report on GMAT or GRE scores
    English proficiency examination (if required).
    two professional/academic recommendations
Statement of support: Mention anything not covered in your application that you want the Admissions Committee to know about you. (No more than 250 words)
Online evaluation: You must complete five questions via an online assessment platform, including two motivational and two competency-based questions.
A completed online application form, as well as an application fee of INR 15,436.

If you would like, we can help you with your application process.

Hello IndianMLMentor750,

Thanks for writing in.

You have a stellar GMAT score and the promotions, leadership exposure, and mentoring experience despite the short span of your career will be immensely valued by the Ad Com. Of course, the essays you put forth will be very crucial in determining your chances of receiving an interview call.

We are just a bit unsure about goals in "Tech Management". Could you please elaborate a bit on what you mean and how this will connect with your long-term goal?

All the best!

IndianMLMentor750,
Great stats, strong profile,
I assume, you would complete 4 years of WE by the time you join MBA; is that right?
you should be able to make it into a top 20 without any help.
With a good counselor, you should be able to get M-7 schools with high scholarships.

As for your career goals, you will need better clarity and articulation, though I assume (again) that you have skipped mentioning some of that, but are clear in your head. Regardless, do make sure in your essay/s to be more clear about it

Ping me on LinkedIn if I can be of help.

Hey Thonereturns,

Your academics are pretty strong, because anything above 75 enables you to target all the good schools in the world. Secondly, your education looks interesting, as it’s not what a lot of people pursue, and that is a great selling point in your profile, as schools like differentiation.

What you are lacking over here is more of a brand name, as a lot of people will be competing with you, but you can definitely compensate for that by mentioning more numbers in your work experience. In fact, your work experience appears to be interesting, as you've spent four years working on ships. In your work experience, you can talk about certain kinds of efficiency improvements and cost reduction activities in the operational department, or maybe you decreased the project time by a certain percentage. So quantification is one of the best approaches, which you need to take care of.

Your international exposure of working at a Japanese firm, makes your profile stand out. You must mention some courses or certifications you have earned. Your extracurricular activities and volunteer work are outstanding, so you definitely have a solid profile for pursuing an MBA.
Apart from that, your GMAT score of 680 seems to be decent enough, but I would recommend you retake it and aim for 700 plus.

If you are aiming for an MBA from, let's say USA, definitely you can look at top schools like:

1. Duke,
2. Cornell,
3. Kellogg,
4. NYU Stern,
5. UCLA,
6. USC Marshall
7. Tuck

If you need more help, we'd be happy to setup a call and give more pointers on how to improve your profile and the right schools you should target.

Dear MiMEssay,

Thank you very much for your response. I would definitely love to connect.
I am mostly looking at schools which have One year programmes or at most 16 months and also have a good percieved value in India. I am also planning to do a SCM certification, probably CII SCM pro, before I apply.

Will connect with you.

Thanks again.

Hi somubarua13,

Academics:
The CGPA is fine. The GMAT score will do. If you have the time and resources to retake the test, please do.

Work Experience:
There is clear progression in your roles and responsibilities. There's good scope to showcase leadership potential. In your case, it is important for you to showcase your impact and individual contributions to the organization. For instance, handling P&L responsibilities and building B2B partnerships can be used to demonstrate your business acumen.

Leadership Roles and Positions of Responsibility:
These are good and can boost the profile

Areas for Improvement:

You need to differentiate your profile and demonstrate the value you can bring to the MBA program. Think along the lines of how you can use your startup experience to showcase skills that MBA programs seek
Define your post-MBA goals clearly and list down your reasons for an MBA. This will help create compelling essays

For a more detailed 1-1 strategy session, please write to contactus@admitexpert.com or fill the form at http://www.admitexpert.com

Good luck!

Hi somubarua13,

Thanks for sharing your details.

Your CGPA is good, though it may not be considered highly competitive for some of the top-tier MBA programs. It would be helpful to highlight any academic achievements, projects, or coursework from your undergrad that demonstrate your strengths in quantitative (math) and analytical subjects. Your GMAT score is pretty strong and balanced (quantitative and verbal). However, if possible, please retake it, as a higher score would strengthen your overall profile and also help alleviate any concerns on CGPA.

Your career progression and increasing responsibilities at Board Infinity showcase positive traits such as analytical abilities, people management and growth/ learning mindset. Highlight your achievements in your applications, framing clear stories around each of these (or more) traits mentioning the Context (of the situation), the Action (you took), the Impact/ Result (to the project/ company), and lessons you learned (how they shaped you). Also note down your thoughts on "why MBA" and "why our school". Linking your past/ current roles to your post-MBA goals, and how the MBA/ B-school would fit in will make your application compelling.

Your involvement in the Department of Youth Capital demonstrate your leadership abilities and can-do attitude. While highlighting this in your applications, also mention "why" you were involved, what skills you developed, what lessons you learned, and how you would bring these both to the B-school and your post-MBA career.

Finally, choose recommenders who can speak to your abilities, achievements, and potential. Assuming you have worked in closed-knit teams, strategically select individuals who have worked closely with you and can provide specific examples of your contributions and leadership skills.

Hope this helps, feel free to reach out if I can be of any help!
