The best/excellent answers get kudos, which will be awarded after the answer is revealed.
There may be no best/excellent answers, or a there may be a few excellent answers! This answer allows us to kill three birds with one stone thus I will rather focus on the concept/approach rather than each individual answer choice.
Our sentence starts by mentioning a person and not a persons work or his/her characteristics.
Therefore, we have to make sure that our comparison is focused on comparing apples to apples (e.g. human to human) rather than apples to oranges (e.g. person to attribute or achievement).
The answer choices B, C & D all make the mistake of comparing things (e.g. work) to the person of Renoir.
This leaves us with A and E as the only remaining options.
However, AC A contains a significant idiomatic mistake, when using "as opposed"... we have to follow this up with a "to" rather than a "from".
Thus, AC E remains as the only correct option.
Hope this helps
