Very good point. I remember that I don’t wise sometimes challenging for judging too.

I think having an automated system to keep people from double posting would also be helpful since some people have posted two or three times

MayankSingh
The explanation once posted should be restricted to any sort of modification... usually as have seen people post random explanation at the beginning (to get limited kudos avl.) and then keep modifying the post n no. of times and still the post appear in the same sequence as posted earlier ..

pardon me for my alien typos. Text missing are the ones(keys) that giving jitters(it is random).
It's because I am using surface pro4 now-a-days and using onscreen key board to edit. Hope you remember that MBA laptop thread. :tongue_opt2

I accidentally clicked submit while scrolling down only to realize that my keyboard has gone rogue.
I didn't know you would be godspeed fast to revert that superfast. :)

Man its difficult to write fast. I will write tomorrow. Hope my keyboard supports me.

Thanks bb. Very excited to hear about GOT 2020. I second few of the comments made already regarding quality of answers in each post and the time constraints and scoring leverage driving those. IMO if we can publish a detailed OA(expert's solution) as the first answer or hidden behind a web-link, it'd be of great help. This should be published at the same time when all solutions are made visible.
Also please reduce scoring weightage for first answer/answers within a specific time duration. I don't see much value in turning this event into a fastest finger first contest. :) Maybe we can award score points for how long one took to solve a question of a specific difficulty level? Or scoring based on average answer time for that question.
Just throwing some thoughts in your direction without thinking about how complicated they could be to implement :P Feel free to ignore :D

Thank you! I am hearing a lot of feedback about removing rewards for fast answers (those wishing the first hour). I welcome suggestions for how to streamline it or improve the contest. I would not want to just remove this element and not replace it with anything else....

Hi bb,

Great to hear that another GOT is on the way. I really cannot say if time will permit me to participate but I am sure its a lovely idea for everyone in this forum.

On the issue of editing post, I have mistakenly typed a wrong answer in my explanation only for me to realize after submitting it. So removing the editing feature will not allow anyone to correct a mistake but leaving it will also not be a noble idea because of people who change their answers multiple times. I think limiting the number of editing to something like once or twice will be sufficient in my opinion.

In addition, I think sharing a template on what constitutes a great answer that warrants kudos as a reference on the game, will be a great idea in my opinion.

I really cannot say if my idea rings a bell but GOT is one of the greatest thing I have enjoyed on this platform.

Cheers.

Nice suggestion bro, but it called Game of Timers (GOT) we deal with time bro :) Infact, the time constraint makes it lively and enjoyable

One thing that I observed was explanations given. Though 24 hours is nothing short by any means but the constraint,on a larger perspective, goes against the very purpose of getting an appreciation or help to fellow Gmatclub member who could not solve/understand the problem. Time for putting an explanation can be extended so that quality of explanation is improved.

This might not be best of a feedback as yet. :)

Thank you all for the suggestions. My favorite I guess is the point about the time and timer. It is a GOT and we need to have a time or timer component. I know the timeframe for releases was cumbersome for users in certain time zones such as Australia but at the same time it does create a nice bump of activity on the questions are released at a certain point in time.

So I did not participate explicitly but I used to practice questions a lot on the forum. So points that I collected helped the team and I guess I was rewarded with Club Tests as well.

That's the first thing about attempting GOT. My point was more on how much time should be optimum to put great explanations worth having a look or appreciation.

Let say you solve the question but do we know whether you solved while your timer was on or not. One might not start a timer intentionally or unintentionally
but that hardly matters to anyone other than that individual. What matters is the explanation, first the individual getting an appreciation either in the form of points or kudos, second others who could not solve or understand the questions.

The suggestion above was as raw as it could be(consider that I posted the first message with GOT on mind to get kudos ;) :tongue_opt2 ) with an assumption that after posting an explanation there was no editing. If editing is allowed then 24hrs is okay, so whatever works is good then. Agree with Sammysat on editing post as it sounds better than mine.

Question: Wouldn't editing the explanations make things harder for moderators? Asking since relooking(don't know how moderator works on that) every explanations would increase the amount of work only even if it is for once. We on the other-side would love to have that feature.

bb,

I have a suggestion, last time we had ties between participants securing same points at the end & while deciding the winner of the rewards, this issue created some sort of problem .This year if we have same sort of situation at the competetion end, then we can have a short round of quick fire round to earn extra points to decide further.

Please share your views here.

GOT 2020 is Coming... :shocked

In summer of 2019 we have run a Game of Timers promotion (GOT) and we are planning to do another round in the summer of 2020. If you have participated in GOT 2019 and have any feedback or even if you have not participated, would love to hear any suggestions you may have to contribute to the more successful competition in summer of 2020

Thank you!
BB.

hello bb and everyone!

sounds tempting :inlove: let's wait for July then

bb, I have a small suggestion,
but it is not related to the competition process directly, rather knowledge we get from posted GOT questions.

so, in comparison to different questions and even to official questions posted herein GC, GOT questions got hundreds more replays and explanations (with different qualities), right.
and after sometime later when we came across with question, it is difficult to go through all 15 to 20 pages reading the answers and finding the good one. maybe given the above suggestions is valid to increase the time given for explanation to increase the quality of the explanations provided...
but in the long run, (it can be applied to not only GOT questions but also the rest questions in GC) so in addition to making some really good questions "most helpful community reply" if there is a possibility to sort out explanations with high quality and with high kudos, so this explanations will be located on top of the rest. some kind 'algorithm' that will sort out questions with a certain quality and show the best one first. it will eliminate time wasted to look for a good explanation, and help to better understand the question.

every person has own approach to certain questions, and definitely the way they explain can be adopted by others and hence will be very valuable.

we have five-month to go, I think if You share this idea is "deep" guys they will find out the answer)

Thank you for your suggestion.

I thought we had an algorithm that already marked all of the best replies as the “best community reply” if it had a number of Kudos that it received... but I guess that would only happen over time and only to one - the one with the highest number of kudos.

Perhaps it is worth looking into marking one as the “best” though I have to say when one is judging 4 questions, it does not seem as a lot but having 4 questions with 60-80 replies each is about 300 posts that have to judged to choose 4 best ones... that’s hard, esp if the question is not super hard...

You are definitely bringing up the right topics and questions. This was a big challenge for the mod team to judge the explanations :(
