Hi there,
Hi BW0807, comments below....Would appreciate a profile evaluation, my stats enclosed below:
Looking at Harvard, Columbia, Chicago, Wharton, and Kellogg.
I'd also add Stern, and I think that you have enough of an interesting background to make this a possibility, certainly your odds go up as you broaden your base to also include perhaps schools like Johnson and Tuck and I would add a safety school also.1) Strategy Consultant at a leading firm in the UK, not MBB; but think Booz / PwC / Monitor bracket (top of tier-2). 2.5 years experience to date and have been promoted from Consultant to Senior Consultant in under 2 years, expect to make Manager before matriculation at which point I will have 3.5 years experience. (and my recommendations clearly support this). I also was seconded for 6-months to one of our European offices, where I gained stellar feedback. Prior to this I was an Equity Analyst Intern at a well respected Investment Bank (think HSBC, Credit Suisse not Goldman Sachs or Morgan Stanley).
2) GRE 1: 169V / 158Q / 3.0AWA = 99%/70%/17%
GRE 2: 164V / 160Q / 5.0AWA = 94%/76%/93%
My question is, which one would you use in light of my profile overall? The way I see it is more consistency vs. a higher overall score. I'm tempted by the second one, but I suppose really it would boil down to whether the AWA is important enough, as the quant scores aren't that different?
You can submit both- so that it can be seen that you had the 5 AWA. But I would still say greater weight is placed on the Q and V scores and would therefore go with first one if I was only looking at 1.3) BA in Economics from University of Manchester, UK (I got very good quantitative marks i.e. highest marks possible in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Econometrics etc) and overall got the highest grade category of 1st Honors (I know we don't translate this but I'd say its probably a 3.6/7 GPA).
4) Local rugby club - Player of the year, held title of Development Officer (i.e. helping the club and players move forwards towards their ambitions)
Rugby club at university - just a solid reliable foot soldier whilst at College, no Captaincy etc.
Mentor - I mentor final year students at my university on their career goals
5) No relevant certifications.
6) Immediate goal is to transition into Restructuring Investment Banking (think Lazard), and in the longer term use this experience to leverage a position on the buy-side at a leading alternative investment manager (think Apollo).
