Hello anwesharath,

While you will be on the slightly younger side of applicants, HEC Paris asserts that the ideal candidate has between 2 and 10 years of professional working experience. Plus, your leadership experience at a reputable government consulting company will help enhance your candidacy. If you manage to secure a 740 GMAT, you should have a strong chance at HEC Paris.

That said, as competition increases and acceptance rates fall for many top MBA programs, candidates across the board are applying to an increasing number of programs, with many in the 6+ range. Your undergrad GPA is really great so you can reach even higher than HEC as well (INSEAD, LBS, and other top US schools).

Additionally, you will want to spend considerable time fine-tuning your MBA goals and personal story. These are both key components of Personal MBA Coach's services. Take a look and feel free to reach out to scott@personalmbacoach.com if you are seeking guidance throughout the MBA application process. We regularly help Indian applicants secure admission to top b-schools each year!

Best,

Hello MBADataAnalyst,

HEC Paris and INSEAD are great choices and your CGPA and GRE score should situate you well for these programs. Since you are coming from a consulting background, you have your work cut out to distinguish yourself from your peers. However, we can definitely help you stand out here. Personal MBA Coach was founded by a former Deloitte consultant and we help numerous applicants from consulting backgrounds gain admission to top business schools each year.

Since a lot of consultants have worked on similar projects, you must accentuate your unique professional accomplishments. Additionally, even if you have a solid profile, it may be harder to differentiate yourself if there are too many qualified consultants from your particular country in a given year.

For this reason, our average client now applies to 5 to 8 schools each year, with many in the 6+ range. Where else are you looking at besides HEC and INSEAD? We also recommend broadening your list due to your age. At Personal MBA Coach, we offer candid feedback on your chances of success at any given program (this support is part of our comprehensive services). Feel free to reach out to scott@personalmbacoach.com to further discuss your candidacy!

Regards,
Personal MBA Coach

Hi MBADataAnalyst,

Thank you for sharing your profile. Starting with stats, your undergrad GPA is good and a good GRE score. So, this part is pretty sorted for you. On the work front, consulting at Deloitte should have equipped you with great knowledge in different industries and cultivated a responsible leader in you. Also, working at Deloitte should increase your global awareness. You are going to be a manager soon, exhibiting your career progression will showcase you as a high-performing individual. So, bank on your strengths to highlight how you can contribute significantly to HEC and INSEAD. And give a global outlook to your post-MBA goals. You may want to read an article on how to get into INSEAD to get some insights.

Talking about your Ecs, they seem good as well. I would say focus on one thing which you are very passionate about and can bring color to your apps. I believe trekking can do this to your profile.

Overall you have a good profile and had a shot at your targeted schools. What are your post-MBA goals like what function would you like to serve in, and are you intending to make a switch? I would like to know about it :)

If you’d like, we are happy to hop on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and further chances to b-schools. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

How to enhance your application and maximize your chances for fall intake

Cheers!

HI,

A few points here:
1. work experience sounds great and relevant for the highly international European MBA programs, including HEC. You will need to highlight your achievements as well as show your international focus and leadership experience through the application. These are very important evaluation criteria at the European MBA programs because of their class profile- a highly global class (read as varied experiences and backgrounds), and with a little more work experience than their American counterparts. So your leadership skills, maturity level and ability to contribute to the rest of the class should be highlighted.

2. I didn't quite get what you mean by attending executive education at so many universities - are you talking about doing Coursera certifications? If yes, they have only limited benefits in the MBA application. In your case, you should think carefully about highlighting these - you have already got an MBA and if you have done so many courses already, do you still need another MBA? I understand the value of face to face classes can not be compared, but just a thought to keep in mind.

3. Your activities outside work sound interesting - I hope the business is doing well (online?) - that will add another feather to your cap .

4. GMAT- yes, I think you should retake. Looking at your other posts, it seems you are applying to several MBA programs. It will help at all of them to apply with a better GMAT score. A 700+ score is always preferable.

Hi AlphaKilo,

thanks for sharing your profile.

You haven't shared much detail, but it looks promising.

As you may know, Indian applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a GMAT score 20-30 points above the school's average. In the case of HEC Paris, this means 710-720. So, yes, a retake is recommended.

Also, in your application, make sure to clearly articulate your need for a second MBA. You haven't shared anything about your goals, but in the career goals essays, make sure to talk about goals that clearly justify a second MBA.

I hope this helps.

Thank you very much.

Warm regards
Alex

Profile evaluation:

Background and nationality - Indian, Male, 26 yrs

GMAT: 750

Work experience and leadership: 4 yrs in total

2. Senior analyst, CEO's office at an early stage mobility startup - Working on cost reduction initiatives to make the startup profitable (1 year)
3. Analyst, CEO's office at a large media company (Viacom18) - Worked on viewership analytics and strategic planning projects (2.5 years)

Post MBA goals: Product management at big tech such as Amazon, Google etc.

Hey ali_parkar!

I would like to begin your evaluation with your academic accomplishments. Academically, your undergraduate degree from one of the top institutions in India definitely works in your favour since schools like HEC Paris tend to choose applicants from top schools. In addition, an 8.2 GPA again showcases a strong academic prowess which is further complemented by an excellent GMAT score of 750. This should set you comfortable to target an MBA from HEC Paris and other top-tier schools.

Coming to your work experience, you have 4 years of experience which is decent enough for an MBA program. You have worked for large corporations as well as smaller businesses, demonstrating a holistic development of your practical experience and exposure. However, you should be aware that you will be competing against people from international MNCs and Big 4 firms such as EY, Deloitte, KPMG, and PwC. So it becomes imperative that you offset this shortcoming by highlighting the knowledge gained from these experiences. You should mention any major projects you have worked on, how you have gone beyond the role, any initiatives you took, and any kind of impact created to further groom your profile.

Further, you should emphasise extracurricular activities and other undertakings since it will help you differentiate yourself from the competition. Here you can talk about any CSR initiatives carried out by the organization you have worked for or your association with any non-profit organization. You can also include any certification courses to demonstrate that you are constantly upgrading yourself.

Talking about your chances of getting admitted to the MBA program at HEC Paris, you stand a 50% chance of getting admitted for this program.

Furthermore, I would recommend you consider targeting other top schools as well in order to hedge your bets wisely. Based on the information provided, here are some of the top schools that you can look forward to:

Under the dream category with a 40 to 50% chance of admission: LBS, INSEAD, WHU
Under the competitive category with 60 to 70% chances: ESSEC, ESCP, FSFM

All things considered, in order to increase your chances of getting admitted to these schools, you would need to ensure that you have a very strong application that highlights your strengths and overshadows your weaknesses. You need to showcase your journey, what makes you different from your peers, and how you are a great value addition to the school.

Therefore, in lieu of that, I would recommend you to check out our flagship ALL-IN-ONE service, which has helped 3500+ applicants get into their dream schools. You would also be entitled to end-to-end consulting combined with unlimited edits on your application documents. Not only this, you’d be consulted by a B-school alumnus who’d be helping you directly with your application process, right from finalising the right schools and submitting an impactful application to the school to preparing you for the interview and bagging scholarships!

Thanks for your help

Hi Tejas123,

Before diving into your profile evaluation, one thing that must be addressed is the fact that for an MBA program, you need to focus only on the endeavours from your undergraduate onwards. Keeping this in mind, let’s jump right into your profile evaluation for an in-depth insight into the various parts that are imperative for your admission in an MBA program in the top B-schools. First and foremost, you have a well-groomed profile with many diverse achievements under your belt. Your undergraduate GPA is decent enough while your GMAT score of 710 is praise worthy, which will allow you to target most of the top-notch B-schools including HEC Paris. In addition to this, it also vouches for your academic capabilities which will further work in your favor during the admission process.

Coming to your work experience, you have a total of 3.5 years of work experience which is pretty standard for an MBA program. Here you have also mentioned about your entrepreneurial journey which gives an edge to your profile, highlighting your leadership potential which is an essential trait for most of the top B-schools. Moreover, you have also worked in various companies under different roles that showcases a streak of varied experiences under your belt. However, since you are applying for a management degree, you ought to focus on highlighting the projects you handled, skills you’ve gained and your major takeaways to stand at par with the competition you face.

Talking about your extracurriculars, you have been part of many diverse curriculums which shows your versatility, adaptability and other interpersonal skills. Most notably, your involvement with a skill development centre for the upliftment of the impoverished women showcases how you are socially empathetic, a trait which signifies the leader within you especially for the betterment of the society. All these experiences cumulatively work in your favor. Apart from this, you can also take up certain certification courses to showcase your constant drive to learn and growth chasing attitude.

Now speaking of the schools that are targeting, HEC Paris falls under the dream category (where your chances of acceptance is 50%). That being said, I would like to suggest you a few more B-schools (a good mix of 6-8 schools) for a better chance at grabbing an admission and hedging your bets. Thus, you can also consider schools such as LBS, INSEAD and WHU in the dream category (50%) and ESSEC, ESCP and FSFM in the competitive category (where your chances of acceptance is 60%).

That said, if you want to accelerate your probability of getting an admit, you need to direct your efforts towards crafting a strong application. Your application is basically what differentiates you by highlighting your strengths and overshadowing your weaknesses. Additionally, it also carries a 30% impact on your admission prospects which is why I would urge you to pay more attention to the same.

Thus, if you are contemplating how to draft an impactful application, you can check out our All-in-one service which has helped 5000+ applicants secure admits from the top schools. It is a complete end to end consulting process aimed at providing personalised application suggestions, unlimited edits and expert consultants who would constantly be there to help you throughout your application journey!

Hello Experts,

Can you guys please help me evaluate my profile for HEC Paris September 2022 Intake

Indian | Male | 27 yrs

Academics:-

10th (AP State Board): 91%
12th (AP Board of Intermediate Education): 94.4%
Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering (Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur): 7.4/10.0 CGPA
Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (University of Florida): 3.76/4.00 CGPA
GMAT - 730 (96th percentile), Q50 & V39 in the first attempt (Should I give it another shot?)

Work Experience:-

Full-Time:-

1.) 34 months in total at Honda R&D Americas (Ohio, United States of America) as a Vehicle Test Engineer.

Internships:-

1.) 8 months at Tesla, Inc. (California, United States of America) as a Fastener Design and Validation Engineer. (Internship was full time, paid and does not have anything to do with a school curriculum)
2.) 3 months at Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited Research and Development (BHEL R&D Hyderabad, Telangana, India) as a Research Intern.
3.) 3 months at Defence Research Development Organization (DRDO Hyderabad, Telangana, India) as a Summer Intern.

I am a hardcore mechanical engineer with all of my professional experience in Research and Development roles. I have 42 months of international work experience in the United State of America. My work experience revolves around developing some of the world's most fascinating automobiles (Teslas, Hondas, and Acuras). During my time at Honda R&D Americas, I worked on developing vehicle body systems and validated component, system, and vehicle level strength and durability attributes for future Honda and Acura automobiles.
In layman terms, I basically made cars by collaborating with multiple engineering teams.

Awards & Extra-Curriculars:-

1.) Awarded a scholarship of 4500$ from the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering at the University of Florida for my academic achievements.
2.) A Gold Medal and a silver medal in national level college sports festivals organized by Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology, DAIICT, and Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur, IITJ, respectively.

4.) Served as the Vice-Captain of the IITJ football team for a period of 1 year. Took complete responsibility for the strategy and operations of the football club during my tenure.
5.) Event lead for various football tournaments, including a national level college sports festival, during my undergraduate days.
6.) Formed and lead an 8 member team as captain at the Honda R&D 2019 Futsal Tournament.
7.) I represented my school in inter-city quiz competitions and have decent scores in several school-level national Olympiads.

Let me know my chances for HEC Paris in particular and also other ways to improve my profile for having a good chance at the mentioned international schools below.
I am most concerned about outside of work experiences during my full-time job. Barely did anything in the past 3 years besides my 9-5 job (not so proud about it).

POST MBA Goals:- Utilise my R&D engineering experience and get into a Product Management role. Looking at Technical/Hardware PM roles in companies that make hardware products rather than software (IT) products.

Hey MBADataAnalyst!

I would first like to mention that you have a really impressive profile here. That said, I would like to start your profile evaluation with professional work experience. Since business schools place most emphasis on work experience for MBA programs, 9 years of work experience would set you comfortable for the MBA program. Additionally, you also hold international experience which goes on to show your adaptability, flexibility and broadened perspectives, traits that schools hold in high regard. This will easily set you apart from other candidates. You have worked with Deloitte, a global brand name which is an impressive value addition to your profile. However you should be cognizant of the fact that you will be competing with other applicants hailing from similar backgrounds with good brand names under their CV. Therefore it becomes imperative that you draw focus towards professional accomplishments such as projects you worked on, any leadership positions held, or any impacts you have created.

Coming to your academic background, you have an impressive CGPA of 8.5 which showcases your academic prowess. Furthermore, an undergraduate degree from VIT University, one of the top institutions in the country, sets you comfortably to target the mentioned schools. Institutions like HEC and INSEAD are notorious for picking up students from tier 1 schools of the country itself. That said, extracurricular activities and other endeavours also play an important role in showcasing a holistic developed profile.

Although you have a good amount of work experience, you will also need to groom your extracurriculars front since these are also taken into consideration. While you have mentioned your interest in football, trekking, and investments, I would recommend that you add a few recent activities to your profile to add value. You can expand on this by highlighting your involvement with NGOs or other volunteering work. These endeavors showcase social aspects of your personality as well as your capacity to impact and sympathise with others. In addition you should also take up certification courses relevant to the subject of your interest to take your profile to the next level. This demonstrates that you are constantly upscaling yourself and taking your profile to the next level. Top business schools always prefer candidates chasing growth.

As for the GRE, you have an excellent score of 328 here that will allow you to easily target these particular colleges.

Based on the information you've provided, schools that you are targeting i.e. HEC and INSEAD will fall under the Dream Category with a 50% chance of acceptance for the MBA program.
Moreover, in order to hedge your bets wisely, you can target a mix of other competitive and dream schools in order to broaden your options and increase your chances of selection.
That said, you can also apply for other schools under the Dream Category like LBS, Oxford and Cambridge.
Schools like Imperial, ESSEC, ESCP, FSFM, and ESMT will fall under the competitive category with 60 to 70% chances.

All things considered, in order to increase your chances of getting admitted to these schools, you would need to ensure that you have a very strong application that highlights your strengths and overshadows your weaknesses. You need to showcase your journey, what makes you different from your peers, and how you are a great value addition to the school.

Therefore, in lieu of that, I would recommend you to check out our flagship ALL-IN-ONE service, which has helped 5000+ applicants get into their dream schools.
