Hi Ph0enix,
Thanks for your note and for sharing your detailed profile! There’s a lot in here and your questions probably deserve a deeper conversation but I’ll share my high level thoughts with you as best I can. (If you’d like to chat live about your specific situation, we can schedule a call separately – you can email me at

1. & 2. Your competition very much depends on what schools you’re applying to so it’s a bit tough for me to say how you compare. In general, the adcom will like to see that you’re on the fast-track at your company and although you’re on the lower end in terms of years of work experience, your promotion and leadership experience (that I assume came with it) speak volumes. Your ECs are a bit light post-college but nothing that I would flag as a true weakness. What I would encourage you to focus on now, is a) take the GMAT and b) start thinking more specifically about what you want to do professionally after business school – both in the short-term and long-term. What types of roles and industry will you be targeting right after school and why? And how does that fit into your longer-term vision of becoming an executive? What kind of executive? How would you see yourself making an impact? These are all important elements of your “story”. And I put that in quotes because it really just means your key application thesis and message – who are you and what do you want to do? That story will be just as important – if not more so – in differentiating your profile as your stats (GPA, GMAT, etc.)
3. It depends! If they contribute to your story in terms of demonstrating commitment to your career goals, then yes, they could help. But I wouldn’t go to the trouble just for the sake of checking the box.
4. It depends on the nature of the job, your reason for taking it, if it’s a promotion, etc.
5. School selection is an important decision and there are a lot of factors to consider including your career goals (and which schools may offer specialized curriculum related to that subject – i.e. NYU Stern for Luxury Marketing), which schools have strong placement records in your target jobs/companies, what schools are realistic given your profile, geographic and other personal preferences, etc. Honestly, that’s a longer conversation in order for me to do it justice
I hope this was helpful! Best of luck to you as you continue to evaluate your MBA plans!
