Hi there,

Good call! Between now and R1, I suggest developing your leadership capacity whenever possible. Whether this be at work or in your extracurricular activities, find ways to lead initiatives and enhance your experience. Should you achieve your target GMAT score (and congrats to you if you do!) you put yourself in the conversation with these schools. Given your goals, I think you're targeting the right programs for R1, but most are going to fall in the stretch category, but I do recommend that you apply. I'd also recommend Cornell as another program to look into. Take a look atour school profilesto get some additional information about each school. You should also take some time to visit schools if you have the chance. At the very least, attend the events near your area, but if you can manage, it's best to visit the schools when classes are in session. Best of luck with your R1 preparation!

Hi,

Thank you so much for your insights. Could you kindly tell me which aspects of my profile are lacking, i.e. which areas I should improve? Is it my GPA, or my work or my extracurriculars? Do you think it would help if I could articulate my leadership experiences thus far in the essays? Or is it the very nature of my line of work that would make me a weak candidate, given my post-MBA goals?

Thanks again!

It's hard to truly say you're lacking in a certain area due to the limited information you shared. I know you mentioned that you "led teams", but that could mean a lot of different things. I can tell you that it's important to showcase your leadership in all aspects of what you do, so if your experience is limited at work, I would find ways to enhance that. Given that you have another 6-7 months before you apply, you should also find ways to enhance your involvement in the community. Be sure to take on leadership roles where you'll have a meaningful impact to the cause. And yes, you should definitely highlight these experiences across your application. It's not about stating you're a leader...it's about demonstrating your leadership. Your work experience is relevant for your future goals in the finance industry, including IB.
