Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out! You have quite a unique profile and professional background! My immediate question after reading your inquiry is why you’re considering a traditional 2-year MBA given your experience
You’re correct that you are on the higher end of the age range for GSB, Haas, and HBS but that in and of itself is not a deal-breaker. However, you will need to have an air-tight story for why the full-time 2-year MBA makes sense for you at this stage in your career and why you need it in order to achieve your post-MBA goals. So it really boils down to story.
The other thing I would caution you on is GMAT! Given your impressive career trajectory and early-on academic success, I would expect to see a higher GMAT score than 700-720. For better or for worse, Asian males are part of a highly competitive pool of MBA applicants so you want to do everything you can to stand out. Since you’re starting the process early (which is great!), you should have time to focus and really do what it takes to get that score up.
Assuming you have a super compelling story, including logical and ambitious career goals that will clearly be enabled by an MBA, and a killer GMAT score (let’s say 730+ if you need a goal), then you just might have a shot at one of those top schools. But I still recommend hedging your bets and considering a few programs outside the top 10 as well, if you’re set on a 2-year MBA.
In closing, circling back to my initial comment, I think you might find yourself among your peers in an EMBA or similar program more so than in a 2-year MBA where the majority of your classmates will be younger, less-experienced, and probably less mature.
Best of luck to you! I’m happy to chat further if you’d like. You can sign up for a free consultation with me
