Thanks for the evaluation, I am planning on rounding out my package and visiting schools this year in preparation to apply next year for a full time MBA program.
Male, Military Officer, 27 years old
UnderGrad: Mechanical Engineering from a top 15Program (top 25 public university)
Post Grad : Will probably take a few business classes over the next year, but my low GPA came from underperforming in elective classes (generally A's/B's in Calc, Stat, engineering, etc)
GMAT - 750
Work Experience
Navy Officer, not special warfare.
- Three successful tours, ranked #1 among my peers for the past 2 tours, we will see how this tour ends, but I will probably at least be among the top 10%.
Extracurriculars:
- Continuous volunteering service since graduation, currently on the board of a non-profit, and do a few other volunteering events sporadically
- Backpacking/travel to ~15 countries
- In college: cofounded the school chapter of a leadership organization, in a couple other clubs, some volunteering
Post MBA Career Goal: Transition to consulting for 2-4 years and ultimately get into global operations/strategy for a large multinational corporation
Target Schools: Berkeley, NYU, Harvard, CBS, MIT, Virginia, Tuck

Thanks for your post, and for your service!!
Congrats on the excellent GMAT! That is great news, though as you likely know, you will need it with your GPA. The GPA will be a decent weakness no matter what.... certainly yes if you were able to take a relevant course or two and get A's it would be a small plus. But even so, a 3.0 and below is generally fairly touch to overcome for top 10 schools such as those you are interested in. Anything is possible but you may want to add a few schools outside that range for better chances and variety, food for thought.
Otherwise, certainly your military background generally will help in that you likely have plenty of leadership and teamwork experiences to draw from, so be sure to play up those skills. The one thing I'd say is it's quite important to most schools that you make it clear that you really know WHY you need the MBA, since it's slightly less typical (but that said most schools have some military classmates each year!).... show that you've done your research, you have clear short and long term post-MBA goals that you know a lot about, and can explain how the MBA will help you get there.
