Thank you for taking the time to review my profile! I’m currently planning to apply in the 2018 cycle but would appreciate any advice on if the extra year would really strengthen my application.
Target Schools: Wharton, Sloan, Columbia, Tuck, and Fuqua
Hi Entropy67, Thanks so much for reaching out to us. Happy to provide some insights below on your profile.Application Overview:
• Personal: 25 Y/O Caucasian Male
• GMAT: 760 (50Q, 44V), AWA 5, IR 8. First attempt.
Impressive!• Education: Graduated 2014 from a Mid-Tier Ivy, Double major in Physics and Economics with a 3.13 GPA.
• Work Experience:
The 3.13 is low- but adcom should give you some credit for two majors and Physics is not an easy subject so I think with the combination of the 760 and your gpa you should be fine. But a 3.5+ would have made it more of a slam dunk. Nevertheless- it is fine and you should remind people if asked or at least do some research to show that I bet the physics gpas are lower than some - if you have a class rank in your major of physics that might help to proactively remind folks just how tough some of those classes can be.o Post College: FP&A Supervisor (two promotions) for Fortune 50 Tech/Telecom on the Corporate Forecasting/Budget team.
Great to see promotions- if you have been promoted ahead of schedule- have your recommender mention that.Responsibilities include: analyzing forecasts from Divisions for potential risk or opportunity, modelling future 12 month revenue for Budget, distributing targets to Division and HQ teams, delivering monthly Forecast to Executive Management, etc.
o In College: Summer Research Assistant at the Air Force Research Labs for two years, TA for an intro E&M course, and Astronomy Tutor
• Extracurricular:
o Post College: Young Professional mentor at my company, we meet up with interns/co-ops over the summer. Other professional extracurricular are scant, I spend my remaining time running (completed three marathons and a couple halfs post graduation) as well as traveling when possible. Job isn’t a normal 9-5 more 8-6 normally and 8-8 during busy times.
o In College: Treasurer of my Fraternity, managed a $10K+ budget and communicated with Alumni network regarding donations and scholarships. Member of the Outsdoors Club and Quiz Bowl Team.
• Essays:I believe I’m a halfway decent writer and should be able to put together a good essay.
• Recs:Both should be good. One from a former boss and one from current VP.
MBA Goals:
• Short-Term Goal – Work with a strategy consulting firm focusing on smaller high growth opportunities.
• Long-Term Goal – Translate consulting experience into Corporate Strategy roll for a high growth business. Looking to be a part of the nascent operations of a company and to guide its strategy into the future. Not ruling out starting my own company if inspiration strikes.
Thanks again for taking a look! Feel free to ask any questions.
