Question

I am struggling with Quant, just started preparing for GMAT n dont know where to start. I want to start from basics as my Quant has been poor. Need inputs

Hello,  Kirankatta09 . I think the  All You Need for Quant thread  might be just what you are looking for. It is a bit more basic than the Ultimate GMAT Quantitative Megathread (which can found further down on the first page, in the signature area). You could also try  Khan Academy video lessons  on basic math topics. If you take to that format, then an online learning module, such as that offered by Target Test Prep, might suit you. I would recommend building conceptual knowledge before taking on too many official GMAT™ Quant questions. Otherwise, you will be exhausting a valuable resource that you may not be prepared at this time to tackle.

Hi Kiran,

GMAT quant tests only a specific types of questions from each topic. So, if you know those question types and how to solve them, then you can score well on GMAT quant. So, the right way to prepare for quant is:
  Organize the concepts based on their difficulty level 
 Learn the concepts 
 Learn the methodology  
 Practice a few questions to solidify your learning 
 Move to the next topic only if you have fair accuracy. If not revisit the concepts 
 Once you are done with all the topics, take timed quizzes

As you are a beginner, you might feel it challenging to make a study plan, organize concepts and find solutions from various resources. Instead, you can just sign up for the   free trial   of GMATWhiz and get your personalized study plan for free. The concepts and already organized based on their difficulty level. All you have to do it follow it and finish your weekly tasks.

Hey Kiran, As you are a beginner, I would suggest you to choose a standard resource to study. Because GMAT prep is a lot more than learning concepts. It's more about application of concepts. So, the resource you choose has to teach you the concepts and their application as well. Along with them, it should provide you standard questions and detailed solutions. Because, most of your learning happens when you make mistakes and analyze the solutions. Make a proper study plan, organize the concepts according to their difficulty level and deal with one topic at a time. In fact, a good resource will have all of this done for you before hand. Make sure you focus on the process more than on practicing questions. All the best

Hi Kirankatta09,

Since it sounds as though you're just beginning your studies, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can take 2 for free at www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a little studying first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the basic content and question types, then that's okay - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. That score will give us a good sense of your natural strengths and weaknesses and will help provide a basis for comparison as you continue to study. A FULL CAT takes about 3.5 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have that Score, you should report back here and we can come up with a study plan.
