Hi Linda, I am back requesting for more advice - this time I have a question on resume writing.
I graduated to be a chemical engineer. But then switched to IT. I have a reasonably good explanation for the career change.
I am writing my resume to apply to B Schools in the US. I have addressed the switch in the essay on setback for some of the schools. A few others do not have this essay requirement.
My question: Should I be addressing this in my resume ? In the educational background section, I will be writing about my Chemical Background but all of my professional background is in IT - how do I address the gap?

The resume is not the place to be explaining a major career or educational changes. The resume is supposed to present in a succinct format a summary of your career achievements, not lengthy explanations.
Without knowing which schools you are applying to or what else you have done and what you are planning to include in your essays, I really can't tell you where to include the explanation. I also am not sure that if you have 5 or more years of experience in IT, you need to explain it . I do feel that if you are fairly close to the decision, let's say less than 3 years, it would be a good idea to provide a reason, but if switched years ago, it simply may not be necessary.
