If you gave a bit more of you, such as targeted score, time, and weak-strong areas, it would help to have better advice from experts and others.

Hi rm67177n,

It's not clear whether you actually need that type of service or not, so before you commit to spending money on any additional GMAT resources, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used besides the course that you mentioned?
3) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a gmat tutor? I have taken Manhattan prep course but I am looking for a more personalized study plan. Where the tutor can help be build a study plan and help me with my weak areas. I am looking for maybe 2-4 hours a week.

I would prefer and in-person tutor in NYC, but due to covid via skype is fine.

I would appreciate any recommendations that you have. Thanks

Hello rm67177n,

I was struggling with the same issue I had some weak areas in my Quant prep as well. you can try GMATBUSTERS Quant Course (https://gmatclub.com/tutoring/tutor/gma ... -345346421). I was at Q34 when I started, I am at Q 47-49 atm. He also gives personalized attention through WhatsApp. I ask him doubts regarding my prep there as well. He also gives some other perks as well, such as his Quizzes.

Regards,
Div

Hi rm67177n,

First of all, it is good to see that you realized that you need a personalized study plan. Because a study plan is very important because it helps to stay focused even when you have office work and other things to do. But following a generic study plan would not suffice because everyone has one's own requirements. It is important to make a study plan that is suitable to you and serves your needs. A personalized study plan helps you do that by taking into account the number of hours you can dedicate in a week. And as you are looking for a private tutoring course, let me share my insights here on how you should choose one.

Before choosing a private tutoring course, ask yourself a question “What more does this course offer that the other tutoring courses don’t?” Most tutoring courses offer you a few one-on-one sessions with the tutors and a facility to contact the tutor to clarify any doubts. But is this really sufficient? A few reasons why students go for private tutoring are they would get:
  • Personal attention from the tutors
  • Guidance from the experts
  • Constant monitoring of their performance

That last point is something which is really important and if done properly will help students improve their score significantly. So, make sure the course you choose does all these things effectively, most importantly the last one.

If you are open to suggestions, I would recommend you to check the private tutoring course of GMATWhiz. We offer you a chance to work with highly experienced teachers at an affordable price of only $50/session (each session is of 1.5 hours duration). Our tutors have a minimum of 10 years teaching experience and we offer a hybrid learning experience where we combine the best of online learning (technology) with private tutoring. We use technology to do 3 things
  • Get you a personalized trackable study plan that adapts in real time
  • Track your performance on the portal against 20+ data points for each question.
  • Help you learn the basic concepts through video lesson, thereby saving the number of private tutoring hours you need. (these video lessons are created by the same experts who teach you)

The tutor uses these data points before each session to identify the gaps in your learning and create relevant content for discussion. Hence each session is 5 times more effective than those offered by other private tutors as you get pin-point advice on exact reasons behind your mistakes. As a result, you get the maximum output with minimum number of sessions.

I can arrange a free demo session if you want. This will help you understand how our tutors use a methodical way of teaching concepts. You can select a suitable slot for a free demo session using the below link.

Hello, GMATWhizTeam. I read through your post, and I agree with the message up to the point I have singled out above. The hence line does not logically follow from the previous line, and the 5 times more effective part sounds like a dubious claim at best. It not only presupposes that other private tutors cannot provide pin-point advice, but it also makes me question what kind of (third-party, unbiased) market research went into determining this supposed effectiveness, relative to that of other private tutors or private tutoring companies. (Why not 3 times or 7 times more effective? 5 sounds made up, to be honest.) Do not get me wrong: I like the professional demeanor of the post, and it is written well, with excellent points for someone to consider. I was simply taken aback by the sudden jump into sales mode.

Let me further say that I am not slinging mud in an effort to promote myself. I disqualified myself from this potential tutoring assignment as early as my initial post, the first response in the thread, in which I directed the person to other tutors, those based in New York, per the original request. Your tutoring company sounds great. I would want to work with tutors who had plenty of experience and used fine-tuned metrics to direct personalized lessons, especially at a lower price point. I just cannot help myself when I see unfounded claims like the one above, which also seem to devalue the services provided by others.

Good luck with your tutoring.

- Andrew

Experiencing an specific years does not guarantee that one can teach someone perfectly most of the times. So, it is better if you share the instructors' GMAT score with split (because some are fan of quant course and some people maybe so serious about verbal part) so that student can choose their expected instructor.
In manhattanprep and veritasprep, all instructors are 99 percentile. Do you hold all 99 percentile scorers in your team?
