Thanks in advance for any insight/advice!

Basics: 27, Asian male
Undergrad: 3.2 GPA, BS Finance and Econ, state public school (rank top 100, known of engineering but not a top school)
GMAT: 750

Extracurricular: Co-President of an Asian Culture club (social & cultural events, student advocacy), VP of Student Government, University Frat Council officer, greek representative for university committees (work with school admin), really involved in university affairs/student life during undergrad

Work experience: All finance work - 3 years at a private economic research firm managing grant applications, currently a financial manager for a non-profit research center (managing research budget, financial compliance, grant applications, performing analyses on center financials)

Dream Schools: HBS, Wharton, Yale, Tuck, BoothThe 3.2 is going to make HBS and possibly Wharton harder and possibly Booth too- not saying impossible but that will be in the negative column and you will have to compensate elsewhere.
Possibly realistic: Darden, Ross, Kenan-Flager Seem reasonable for targets

I think my GPA is my biggest weakness but hope that it can be offset by my GMAT. I was a bit too focused on being top dog in college, hence my involvement (and having a bunch of fraternity/leadership awards) and just didn't put the time into my classes. When you explain it- briefly! - don't make excuses. Just own that you did not make it a priority. My post-college employer is decently known in the economic community but otherwise not a strong name. The research center I currently work with is affiliated with a few top academic institutions (including ivy league) but not sure how much that will help. I've enjoyed helping my bosses at work past my normal duties, especially in improving efficiency in managing budgets and general financial processes. I'm hoping to move into consulting with an MBA.Focus on the results you've had, how have you made a difference since you have been working there? try to quantify some key results.

I have a few friends from college with much weaker stats and work experience that ended up at schools ranked between 15-25, so curious if I have a better shot at other schools.
I think you have a good chance- but you need to make sure you have a compelling WHY MBA, why this school etc. And you get that from doing research this spring- visit MBA programs of interest and really know how you can add value and what value they will bring to your career. I could see a consultant helping you tell your best story for this... to find out how we could help look here: https://stratusadmissionscounseling.com/ ... b-visitor/
And good luck! Hope we hear from you. Now is a great time to make a plan for the next 6 months to make sure you do your best job!

Hi wluu19,

At your GMAT, we would not worry about the GPA. Relax!

What would help now is to focus on other aspects of your candidacy - most notably the essays and recommendations.

We would like to explore your career progression in detail. Please feel free to send your resume to the mail address below.

Also, it will not harm to select a few more "safe" schools apart from the ones listed by you.

Let's have a more detailed discussion once you send your resume.

Cheers!
