Right triangle ABC is the base of the prism in the figure above. If AB=AC=√2 and the height of the prism is 3, what is the volume of the prism?

A. 1
B. 3/2
C. 2
D. 3
E. 6

both sides are equal,

Volume of square = √2 * √2 * 3 = 6

Volume of prism = \(\frac{6}{2}\) = 3

IMO D

It wouldn't be a cube, it would be a parallelepiped because edges aren't equal: √2, √2, 3

Area of any prism = area of base * ht of the prism --©

Area of base =0.5 *✓2*✓2

Put those values in © you will get area as 3

IMO: D – 3
Area of Triangle ABC – 1/2*root2 * root2 = 1
Now Volume = Area of Triangle * Height of prism = 1*3 = 3 cubic unit

Hi Jitu20

Sorry for the lack of technical terms.

I meant to say that triangle ABC is right angle with equal sides (45degree remaining angles). If we can mirror it, it will become square.
(You may agree)

Now we have figure with square at bottom and top with length 3 meter.

So volume of that figure = √2 * √2 * 3 = 6

I hope this will help you.
