Soon the GMAT™ online exam will further align with the test center exam. Upcoming enhancements include: Your unofficial score report displayed immediately after your exam, Select Section Order, two optional 8-minute breaks, and the addition of the Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA). BREAKING: GMAC just announced immediate GMAT Online scoring, select section order, an extra 8-minute break, and other important, long-awaited updates starting 4/8/21!!

There's still no ESR (Enhanced Score Report) option, though, and GMAC still only allows one retake for the online exam.

Four Key Enhancements Starting on April 8

Plan your future testing strategy with these changes in mind:

View your unofficial score immediately : Leave the suspense for the movies. See your score on screen after completing your exam so you can plan your next steps.

Select your section order : Choose which section order to take the exam in, just like the test center exam.

Take two 8-minute optional breaks : Why have one break when you can have two?

Write your Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) : Show off your analytical writing skills to your target programs.

Dates to know:

February 17: Registration opens for the enhanced GMAT™ online exam 
Save the date. Register beginning February 17 for appointments April 8 and beyond.

Now through April 7: Current online exam is available 
Still here. You can confidently continue to meet your business school goals with the current online exam.

Yes. That seems to be the biggest weakness and issue about the GMAT Online. I don’t even see ESR being an issue.

It is nice we can see the score immediately now but what about more than 2 attempts? Many folks have already done 2 attempts.... so this is of no consequence to them.

No. BUT - You don’t need to cancel them. There was no need to cancel them and seems like there won’t be either based on how the system works. The system reports only the score you choose.

I was expecting GMAC to allow more than 2 attempts for GMAT Online exam. Adding 2 sectional breaks and select section orders are definitely good as well but not for me though

. Hope GMAC considers allowing more than 2 attempts sooner

Great news! Immediate unofficial scores and the opportunity to select the Verbal section first are game-changers for sure: I've always said that the hardest part about the GMAT Online is waiting days or even weeks for your scores to arrive.

Once this change is implemented on 4/8/21, the GMAT Online will be closer to the test-center GMAT than it has ever been.

Now all we need is the ESR (Enhanced Score Report) option, and more than 1 retake.

Also, I guess I should be flattered that the  Official GMAC account  turned  this post of mine  into its own copypasta?

Does anyone know whether the additional 8-minute break on the GMAT Online will occur after the first section, as it does on the test-center exam, or between the third (usually IR) and fourth (usually AWA) sections? Thanks.

I thought about the same thing and the same question and I figured it would have to be between Q and V but I could see an organization that is not to be named potentially putting it between IR and AWA and sandwiching Q and V together. Let’s see once we can register for the GMAT or perhaps we can see once the mba.com are updated

I'm currently registered to take the GMAT Online exam March 13th, but now I'm wondering if I should push it off until April 8th with the benefit of these added features. I'm not planning to apply to b-school until the fall, so although I would like to "get it over with!" I'm wondering if maybe I shouldn't rush to take the test in March if b-schools might prefer a score with the AWA section included in April? What are your thoughts?

I also wonder if GMAC would even allow me to reschedule from one format to another or if will I have to cancel and book an entirely new appointment for the Enhanced exam...I'm tempted to just book both options and cancel later but WOAH it seems like they are really ramping up their fees come April 8th!!!

The schools won’t care about the AWA. There is no reason to take a test just for the AWA. If the other changes such as the breaks or order choice are compelling enough for you, then sure you can reschedule and pay the rescheduling fee but otherwise, there’s not much difference for schools.

I feel for previous GMAT online exams they shouldn't count them towards the 8 limit. This change is huge and makes it pretty different from the current online format imo.
