Chaitanya,

No i got 2 questions in a RC wrong and 1 question in another RC wrong! I simply do not understand how I was able to score V38 with 13 wrong, V40 with 9/10 wrong in GMATPrep 1 and 2 with no seen before questions in either of them. However, ended up with 11 wrong and a V score of 34! I simply cannot understand this in fact this was the first time i completed verbal section with 2 minutes to spare and felt confident!

Hi Senthil, it is possible if the questions you got were of lesser difficulty level throughout your exam. This can happen if you continue to answer a few easy / medium questions incorrectly in the first three quarters. If you want to score high, it is very important that you answer almost all easy / medium questions correctly in the first half of the exam. You can go through the below post for more details.

hiline-gmat-algorithm-studies-223122-20.html#p1719836

You answered 6 questions incorrectly in the first 20. I believe most of them should be so called easy / medium level questions. How many of these were silly mistakes? Were you hurrying in the first half (I am asking this as you said that you finished 2 minutes earlier)? If there were not many silly mistakes in those 6, then you should probably work harder on those topics as GMAT might be looking at them to be easy / medium level whereas you might be seeing them as difficult. This can happen if you are weaker in certain topics.

Hi himpuji,
Until this CAT i had not paid heed to the timer but on this CAT i was equally concerned about the timer as i was with answering questions correctly. Not sure if that cost me a good score! As for silly mistakes i had made around 7 of the 13 in quant and probably 3 to 4 out 11 in verbal

Timing is important, but it's always better to spend some more time (not too much) in the first 10-15 questions so that you can avoid silly mistakes in easy / medium level questions there. I actually asked how many were silly mistakes in the first 6 mistakes (among the first 20 questions) in verbal. If all your 3-4 silly mistakes were done in the first two quarters then it will explain why GMATPrep did not give you higher difficulty questions. In that case you need to be more careful in the first half to avoid those silly mistakes. If you only did about 1-2 silly mistakes among the first 6 incorrect answers, then you may need to improve on the topics where you did a genuine mistake. Because from your score and percentage of correct answers it seems GMATPrep never raised difficulty level much above medium for the last test. So you probably gave incorrect answers to a significant no of medium level questions.

Himpuju, of the first 6 errors 3 were silly mistakes - 1 SC and 2 CRs! Primarily because i just skimmed through an option - when read properly clearly stands out!
.
Just took a 41 session Gmat-Wiley website practice set of questions classified "Hard" in OG2016 that i have never practiced before ) had used only diagnostic questions and OG verbal not this one.

I got 36/41 correct in which i observed the following:

20 Sentence Correction Questions - All 20 correct
13 CR questions - 9 Correct ; 4 Incorrect (1 Assumption,2 Evaluate,1 Weaken)
8 RC questions - 7 Correct 1 wrong.
.
Clearly I can see I need improvement in CR in terms of number of questions to get right!I think I may need to take short breaks of 5 seconds while starting a CR question! While in RC and SC I have a stratrgy to parse through answers , eliminate and then choose the best, in CR i fail at times! May for CR alone, i must get used to writing A B C D E on scratchpad and strike the ones that appear incorrect so that i can focus on remaining choices, ie, process of elimination first followed by choosing the correct between the last 2 contenders.

Ok today i took 2 full length GMATPrep CATS

Exam Pack Two Exam 6 - Scored 660 (Q49 ; V31, IR 7)
.
GMATPrep 1 Re-installed GMATPrep and took - Scored 730 (Q50 ' V39)
.
While CR and RC remained almost the same in exam 6, i somehow bombed SC that I got the lowest ever score on SC right from day 1 of prep - got 10 out of 14 questions wrong! Upon review found that i just threw away 5 SCs that were pretty straight forward but i missed because i failed to read one of the other choices fully! Damn it i've got to get this habit of hasty reading of choices!
.
I also need sufficient warm up before an actual test to perform optimally or else i tend to become too rusty at times and consequently drop off! Let me warm up and take GMATPrep Exam Pack 1 - Test 4 tomorrow and post back.

Update:-

Today I took the full length Exam Pack 1 - GmatPREP 4 with AWA and IR and scored as follows:

730 - Q50 (got 6 incorrect out of 37) ; V38(Got 13 Incorrect out of 41 of which 6 CRs were wrong, 5 SCs were wrong and 2 RC questions were wrong) but with a dismal IR of 4.
.
While I am consistent with Quant scores more or less, it is the verbal part that fluctuated recently. I used the scratchpad to eliminate wrong answers and did not pay heed to the timer today and ended quant with 1 minute remaining and verbal with 4 minutes remaining.

I took GMATPrep Exam 5 from Exam Pack 2 today and scored a 700 (Q49; V36 and IR7).

Completed review and following are my observations:

Quant - Got 8 wrong in total of which 4 were damn silly errors , 2 guessed in the end due to time constraint.
Verbal - Got 10 incorrect of which 5 in SC (2 were silly errors), 3 in CR and 2 in RC.
.
Having taken 4 unique Mocks in the past 4 days (including today) I feel more comfortable in time management. I will be taking GMATprep exam 3 from Exam Pack 1 tomorrow and Tuesday is the G-Day @ 3PM!

Today, I visited the test centre to know where exactly it is and got back home. I took a full length CAT - GmatPrep 3 from Exam Pack 1. I got 1 repeat in Quant and 1 Repeat CR in Verbal with all others being new.

I scored a 740 with following break-up:

Q49 - 7 wrong out of 37
V41 - 5 Incorrect out of 41 (2 CRs wrong, 2 RCs wrong and 1 SC wrong).
IR - 8
.
I was very happy with my Verbal score as my range has always been between 36 and 40 with the exception of a very recent V32. I have my real GMAT scheduled tomorrow at 3 PM. Hope I perform as well as i did today! :)

The passport shows my father's name as surname and also mentions it is my father's name but person considers this a discrepancy. I have raised a ticket with customer care and will not be able to take up the exam today. $250 into the drain. I guess it is time to drag this bloody policy and the policy makers to court for looting candidate's money on such trivial grounds.

I don't think these thieves have any such policy. The way they talk too sounds very much like conmen! My god never thought GMAC would use very inconsequential reasons to deny a person from taking up an exam and loot away the money!

That is quite absurd. I have seen many passports follow similar naming conventions in India, especially southern parts of India. Are you taking the test in Indian test center. I remember last time they created an issue (surprising though) in my mother's name as the way it is written in passport the admin couldn't figure out her maiden name / first name / last name. I was allowed to take exam 30 mins late. I can imagine the mental stress you have to go thru.

All the best for refund or coupon.
