The angles are in a ratio of 2:3:4, implying the smallest correspond to 2.
Smallest angle =(2/(2+3+4))*180
=(2*180)/9 = 40.

Answer is therefore C.

(A) 20
(B) 30
(C) 40
(D) 45
(E) 60

We can create the equation:

2x + 3x + 4x = 180

9x = 180

x = 20

Thus, the smallest angle is 2(20) = 40 degrees.
