I got an admit with almost a full scholarship and I really like the program which has a number of unique features. My concerns are below:
1) I got a GA that needs me to work 10 hours a week. Is it manageable right from the start considering I am from non-business background and the first 6 months are supposed to be very hectic.
2) All current students talk highly of the program but then BW that ranks based on alum reviews and employer ratings ranks Tippie at 73. Which is like below some of the new B schools as well. How do we explain this?
3) The location is Iowa city which is like not a major tech hub. I am considering IT consulting and hence apprehensive about the location.
4) Whats the transportation like if you want to travel to Chicago and other major areas in and around Iowa.
1). GA work is pretty much manageable.. As far as I know you don't have to worry too much about it !!
2). For the rankings you can see the reply that I have given to the post above in this forum
3). As far as the location is concerned, I do agree that Iowa City is not a big tech hub. But,since you are looking for IT consulting I believe that locations pretty much don't matter. As a matter of fact, an Indian IT student here who wanted to get into IT roles landed internship in Nationwide Insurance at Ohio. That's the knowledge that I have wrt IT job search. If you want I can connect you to students with similar ambitions( IT consulting) as yours so that you can have a clear picture. Atleast in US its all about networking. The onus on getting a job is pretty much on you and how you network. There are 2nd years who have got interviews with Mckinsey ,Microsoft and IBM through networking, so pretty much anything is possible
4). You have buses 3-6 per day that goes to Chicago from Iowa city. This usually takes 3.5-4 hrs depending on the time of departure. Cedar Rapids airport is 30 min from Iowa City if you would like to go by plane. To be honest its a college town and you wouldn't find much to do in Iowa city. On a personal basis I like this town and the college atmosphere that it has, since everything around here is pretty much based on the Univ..
