Hi everyone.
I am looking at Rotman as a school I want to go to the coming year. Request your comments and any suggestions for schools other than IMD would be highly appreciated.
Nationality: Indian ( Male, 30 )
Undergrad: Nirma University, Ahmedabad, CGPA : 7.76, First Class with Distinction,
GMAT: 660 ( Q 48, V 33) - Less than Gmatprep mocks given so will be attempting once more
Work experience: Project management , 7 years of experience in development and delivery of
capital infrastructure(T&D) projects with Tata Power
• Have been part of core teams in developing energy assets( capex) acheiveing capitalisation ranging USD 5M to 75M.
and increasing installed transmission capacity upwards of 2000 MVA.
• Led project execution at site for major capex projects managing site team of OEMs, large contractors and local vendors( team size approx 150+)
• Have managed multidisciplinary engineering site activities for a major project transition from EPC to BOQ model( short close contract of major EPC player midway in the project led to change in execution philosophy).
• Have led department HSE activities as departmental coordinator for 6 months. Prepped HSE dashboard for senior management, analysed operational and audit data for multiple sites to help bring two important safety improvements that were showcased in company's annual innovation event.
• Worked on project sites with international teams of various OEMs for a consistent time frame. ( 5 years)
Community and others:
• I have worked at an NGO full time for 6 months involved in installation of solar equipment in remote villages in gujarat. I spent a significant portion of this time also working on literacy campaigns for such remote villages on the use of solar pumps and panels.
• While working for transmission line projects in Mumbai, I have been actively involved in regular programs where people living below high voltage transmission lines are sensitized on the dangers of EHV lines.
• I have worked also with a couple of tourist organisation in Goa for 2 months where I had been involved in sustainable cooking practices in a small village for a large tourist crowd.
Post MBA goals
• Post graduation I want to continue in the energy sector as my interests are strongly aligned with the renewable space. My short term goals include getting to work on the manufacturing side of the project supply chain ( Companies like ABB, Vestas, Siemens) as till now I have worked for a utility and client side. Long term goals are to work on large scale distributed energy sufficiency programs for developing economies.

total Abroad Exp : 5 Years - UK-Scotland and England (2.5 Years), Italy (2 Years-currently in Italy), Singapore (6 months), India (1.5 years)
Current Role:
Project Lead- ERP DevOps| 2018 – Present |Florence, Italy
• Key responsible for delivery and capability excellence through Design, Development and Support of specific enterprise solutions.
• Leads a team of 20+ associates for tactical and operational direction enablement and implementation of strategic vision of the practice of ERP DevOps. team is based out of Italy, France, India and US.
• Single point of contact between the firm and the client HQ.
• Business development within the current account with up-sell and cross-sell.
• Anchors business pursuit initiatives, client training and in-house capability building.
• Caters to a huge user base ranging in countries including but not limited to- Italy, UK, USA, Brazil, Russia, Hungary, France, India, China, Australia. This requires me and my team to very flexible with time and be available at odd hours depending on the need.
I have got 3 promotions in 6 years and have reached to Mid management level in my firm which is well known international IT firm.
Notable Volunteer work and ECC:
1. I initiated an event called Minute Made-A talent hunt in NITW's Cultural fest known as Spring Spree. Initially started off as a talent platform for anyone to come and showcase their unique talent in 1 minute, During the 2nd and 3rd of its inception, we turned the event into a platform for specially abled people.
In my final year we saw 17 participants from all over India with hearing, visual, physical and mental disabilities (Speically abled) to participate in the event.
The event is still continuing till date.
2. I lead the NITW team of SAI-BAJA- national level Off road car making and racing competition for 2 years. This shows diverse interest.
3. I was General Secretory for Civil Engineering Association in my college- responsible for managing funds worth 2Lakhs and arranging events for more than 700+ students from B.tech first year to M.tech final year.
4. I also directed, written and played lead role in Drama clubs of our college. There is an event called 0-Gravity and you can see the youtube video of the event and dramas i played role in. Dramas were skits mostly based on generic issues in society.
5. I was also part of Team VR1- Hyderabad chapter where we used to teach "physics made easy" to local schools in Hyderabad and Warangal- twice a month.
entrepreneurship
I also founded a digital Media marketing and event management startup right after college, the stint went on for almost 2 years and turnaround was almost 60K INR per month- not very significant and had to be shut down as I moved to UK on work.
short term and Long term plans
short term- shift the profession entirely to Digital transformation leadership roles/Sales- Business development and strategies
Long term - Sustainable business practices
please evaluate and let me know if i stand a chance in Rotman 2020 Sep intake.

I had a similar case when I was writing my application for b-schools. I ran my startup alongside my regular job for a few months too. And yes you can't mention it as additional work experience, but there are ways you can portray examples from both (job and startup) in your application, which would definitely count as additional experience (just not numerically), and that really gives you an edge over other applicants in the pool.
