Just a word of advice:

To applicants who are still doing their GMAT and who are serious with Rotman, take the probabilities topic seriously. I know some people have this tendency to try to delete learnings after an exam/GMAT. DON'T. You will use it a lot in the first term for the Model-based decision making. I can't believe I'm saying this, but we do reference a lot of GMAT learnings/topics!

Thanks a ton for that tip, sheiquiroga
Putting every ounce of energy left to scoring better on the GMAT :-)
Wish you all the best for business school and keep us informed about the process!
Will be meeting Ally Morrow on 20/09/17(as she is on tour in Indie) to better
understand how to better address the gaps in my resume and how to differentiate.
Any tips on that?

Is the Model-based decision making which you are talking about part of
the Design thinking process of learning at Rotman?

Great advice sheiquiroga.

I will definitely keep it in mind.

By the way how much of your MBA experience so far relates to your GMAT preparation. I mean is MBA at Rotman more of a problem solving analytical based (GMAT Quant prep will be helpful for that) or communicative presentation based (GMAT verbal will be tested).

Sorry if I confused you :-)

Hi dreams101,

You may want to connect with AnubhavK if you intend to go for the event.
AnubhavK
Hi all,

Rotman is going to be in (Gurgaon) Delhi/NCR for their routine MBA tour, where they meet candidates and answer queries about their programs. I understand, many of you cannot make it to the event on Monday, September 18, 2017. Just wanted to let you know, I will be attending that event. It would be great if you could share your queries regarding Rotman's MBA programs, etc. Drop a message to either pushpitkc or me.

To know more details, please visit: https://www.rotman.utoronto.ca/Degrees/M ... EPT18Delhi

Hope this helps.

Anubhav

I'll be attending in Bangalore on 20th. If anybody else is coming, do connect with me :D

Hi all,

some advice: be yourself, dress up, prepare a good story including
1. what is your background (edu, work exp)?
2. what do you want to do in the future and why?
3. how does Rotman MBA help you to achieve your goal?

Technically, this story pitch is applicable to all MBA program anyway so it is good that you prepare a convincing one. You can practice with your friend/ colleagues/ boss (?) to get their feedbacks and improve upon. The pitch should last around 2 mins. Usually, during the interview, adcom might ask you to walk them through your resume. DONT go item by item. Think of it as your story pitch in 2 mins.

Resume: You can refer to Rotman template to prepare yours and it should preferably no more than 2 pages. Why?

1. Linking back to your 2 mins story pitch, you can imagine how hard it will be to walk through a 5-page resume :P
2. When you go to Rotman, they will ask you to condense your resume to 1 page; so cutting it in half is easier than by 75%.

Some insight:

1. Rotman values integrated thinking aka leveraging resources and people expertise to solve problems in an analytical way (you can think about data, root cause analysis, insight, etc.).
2. Rotman values team player A LOT. I spent more time with my team than with my wife (lolz) and we have various workshops in our orientation that emphasized in how to work in team effectively (refer to Sheila's blog for more information)

Hence, in your behavioral questions, think about the time when you together with your team solve the problem. It will benefit not only to your Rotman MBA application, but also to any MBA applications.

All the best for your GMAT and preparation. Let us know if you have any more questions.

Regards,

LM

I am not sure about what to enter in the "Date of Landing" in the online application. Can anybody throw some light?
I'm aware that the session starts sometime early August. As an Indian candidate, what would be the ideal date to land before the session starts?

I landed Aug 3. Pre MBA started Aug 7. Your Batch's Mandatory Orientation will most likely start on Aug 20.

Thank you. This really helps. :-)

I see a lot of people in the forum have already submitted their apps. Is there any disadvantage or risk associated with submitting the app in the week before the deadline? Too late?

I will be applying in Round 2. Round 1 is definitely not too late :)

Every application is judged on its individual merit and no time is too late for an awesome application :)

All the best ZenYogi

Thanks a ton for those wonderful insights leminh89!

Have to defer my applications to Round 2 and am from an over-represented demographic.
How much of an impact do you think that will have on the ad-com with reference to my candidacy?

Here is my two cents: A list of DON'TS:

  • Asking any questions to the Admission Committee that can be easily answered from the website or a web search.
  • Asking what are my chances of getting in or what are my chances of getting a scholarship?
  • Asking to review the resume line by line?
  • Being rude to any staff member.
  • Hounding them for more and more information or contacts.
  • Sound boring or having a monotonous tone. Sound too enthusiastic or too desperate.
  • Arriving too early and interrupting their task.
  • Giving any gift or asking for a picture/selfie.
  • Not sending them a thank you note after the meeting.

If possible, do a bit research on their Linkedin profile too and try to find a common element between you and the Adcoms

The date of landing is for those who have already immigrated to Canada, not for international students.

Met with Ally Morrow at the MBATour fair on the 20th at Bangalore!

She was too cool and I loved the way she took on all the candidates and their repetitive questions about Rotman.

She answered questions non-stop for around an hour and a half!
