Hey everyone,
just wanted to quickly share my experiences regarding the online GMAT.
First off, I started studying for the GMAT during September and mostly did it full-time, meaning 4-5 hours per day. On my first GMAT Official Practice Test i scored a 600, which I thought was a decent baseline score. In the following months, I took all other 5 official practice tests, consistently scoring between 730 and 750 (Q usually around 47-49, V usually around 40-42). As I am applying for my Masters program in January, I wanted to take the test in December. Due to the Covid situation, however, I was left with no choice but to take the online exam.
Before the test, I made sure to prepare everything according to the GMAC guidelines, which do provide pretty detailed information. I started the test on time but midway through the quant section, a proctor contacted me, stating that she would have to restart the exam as she was not able to see my video. Thus, the software was closed and I had to wait for 30 minutes (felt like an eternity!) until I had the chance to resume my test. Other than that, Quant was alright - I definitely saw much harder questions than I previously did on the practice tests and I did have to guess on a couple questions, but I thought that this may actually be a good sign given that the GMAT is a CAT. Verbal, in contrast, felt pretty good - the proctor did not interrupt me and the questions seemed just like in the practice exams. As my blatter was killing me after Verbal, which I finished 8 minutes early, I left the room to use the bathroom - which was no problem at all. I heard from other people who got their exam revoked during their break, but nothing like that happened to me. IR went smooth!
So, all in all, I would definitely not recommend anyone to take the online GMAT when you have the chance to take the real thing in person. There is so much tech stuff that may go wrong during the exam! Personally, I was super anxious after the Quant experience that I would not be able to finish my exam given the tech issues.
Will keep you guys updated on the scores - Hoping for 680 plus! Cheers!
