During the 1980’s and 1990’s, a burgeoning industry in the United States centered on “high technology.” Because of the sophisticated knowledge required for fields such as computer programming, it was believed that individuals who entered these fields would have job security like their parents believed they had in the mid-20th century. Note that in RC questions: 
 
 Correct answers often synthesize ideas across paragraphs so it is okay if the phrase is not explicitly stated
 While the passage never uses the phrase  economic stronghold , but it clearly describes high technology as a long-standing source of job security and growth since the 1980s and 1990s. Choice D accurately paraphrases that idea rather than quoting it directly
