Good point. However, even if certain roles take the internship route, they count towards the placement statistics.

Overall, pure-play finance roles form a lower proportion at ISB, and the same is true for most one-year MBAs. A career shift into core finance through a one-year MBA is a bit difficult, and prior finance background is usually preferred.

Hope that clarifies.

Regards,

It is a smaller % because finance and IB roles go through internship route

Hello Mentors,

I would appreciate a profile evaluation for the 2027–28 intake of the following programs:
ISB PGP
HEC Paris MBA
London Business School MBA
NUS MBA

I would also like guidance on the GMAT Focus Edition score I should target to be competitive at each school.

Profile Overview:
Female, 25
Class X: 79%
Class XII: 89%
BBA, CGPA: 8.89/10 (Tier 2/3 institution)

Work Experience:
By the time of application, I will have ~4 years of experience across the fintech and SaaS sectors.

I have worked at Razorpay, Lucidity, and currently smallcase (a Zerodha Group company). My career has pivoted from a core B2B sales role toward the growth role, providing a lot of exposure into the finance, payments, and the wealth sector.

My experience includes working closely with C-suite stakeholders across mid-sized enterprises and MNCs. In my current role, I work with some of India's largest AMCs and wealth management firms while reporting directly to the CEO.
Hi Swarnika,
You have a strong profile and your application may be made very attractive for all the target schools. All you need to ensure that your GMAT score remains competitive. I suggest that you keep a target of scoring 675 (specially for HEC and LBS)

For ISB and NUS a score around 655 will also work well but better score will enhance your chances and competitiveness.

DM in case you wish to have a detailed discussion.

Wanted to ask about recent placements at ISB
Heard that consulting roles form the major chunk, followed by product management. What is the percentage of IB/ finance roles ?
Consulting and Product management roles were in plenty this year. About 800 of 840 were places in the placement rounds and about 40 were still struggling to get appropriate placements on 01st may (some by choice as they want better placement and some were just not lucky enough)

Yet the school management is very confident of getting all candidates well placed.

If one has a prior finance background ( academic plus work experience)
What is the probability of getting into finance/ IB after MBA at ISB / IIM 1 year
You don’t have to worry about it. It’s an equation of demand and supply. They create supply of profiles for placements as per the demand.

There are plenty of candidates who make it to the roles that you are targeting from both places ISB and IIM ( 1 year) (I can connect with some if you want, DM me if you want that)

My suggestions:

Crack them all first and then choose at your leisure 😀

Realistically, IB hiring is limited.

More common ones :
Product management in banks, card companies, corporate finance, transaction advisory, valuations, strategy-finance, PE/VC ops, fintech, investment research

Hi SwarnikaSingh,

Overall, you have a strong profile for ISB and a competitive profile for NUS, HEC, and LBS. Your experience across Razorpay, Lucidity, and smallcase shows good brand value, career progression, and exposure to fintech, SaaS, and wealth management. Working closely with senior stakeholders and reporting to the CEO are definite positives.

Going forward, focus on demonstrating leadership, ownership, and measurable business impact. Since sales and growth profiles are relatively common in the applicant pool, your ability to quantify achievements and differentiate your story will be important.

From a GMAT FE perspective, I would recommend targeting 675+ for ISB and NUS, 685+ for HEC Paris, and 705+ for LBS.
I would also encourage you to think carefully about your post-MBA goals. Given your background, growth strategy, product strategy, fintech leadership, or consulting could be natural paths. Having a clear answer to why MBA, why now, and what role you want post-MBA will strengthen your applications significantly.

All the Best!

Happy to connect if you’d like to discuss your profile in more detail.

Hey Guys, I got a 715 on the GMAT Focus. Since then many people have reached out to me, so as a pastime and a passion of teaching, I have started this pro bono GMAT Mentoring initiative where I help aspirants out during my free time. Personally having spent almost a year for prep (mostly in unwarranted efforts), I strongly believe that with a structured preparation under right guidance, and avoiding some basic mistakes, scoring 700+ becomes much more doable!!
Feel free to reach out :)

Hi Animesh7,

With 5.5 years of work experience, you will be on the lower end of the experience spectrum for both IIMA PGPX and IIMB EPGP. To compensate, I would recommend targeting a GMAT Focus score of 665 or higher. A score in that range should also make your profile competitive for ISB.

Your academic background appears solid. However, there isn't enough information about your professional experience to assess the overall strength of your profile. A key area to focus on will be defining clear and compelling post-MBA goals, as these play an important role in the admissions process.

Also, do you have any notable extracurricular achievements, leadership experiences, community involvement, or other activities outside of work?

All the Best!

Happy to connect if you’d like to discuss your profile in more detail.
