Hello Gmat-Club members,
I am Sounak Saha from Kolkata, India, and am looking for some honest opinions regarding some things. I am currently working as a Senior Data Engineer in a company for 10 months, and this is my first job after graduation in July 2021. As you have already guessed, I am an Indian IT Male, a category that is highly over-represented. The reason I want to do an MBA is that my family owns a medium-scale leather manufacturing unit that completely deals in exports to consumer businesses abroad. I have been working there part-time, on the data handling and client-based inference extraction side of things, since I am versed in the field of Data Science and found this role to be the most suitable for me. The reason I want to go into a management course is solely to digitize our existing setup and take it to the larger scale, maybe consumer goods. I am still to sit for the GMAT and hold a final SGPA of 8.43 in my undergraduate course.
My question to the community is very simple - are there any business schools in the US, where I would have a realistic chance of gaining admission for the 2023-24 Fall Session in MBA or should I wait for a few more years? If there are some institutes (fingers crossed!) kindly list them out for me too.
Requesting all honest opinions - as I know this is the best community to get that.
Thank you everyone in advance.
Hi
Sounak97 , I agree with the previous poster that you should build your profile over the next 2-3 years. In fact, you should not simply wait to stay in the IT domain in your current company, but try to get experience across companies or startups in a variety of roles (operations, tech, analytics etc.) to make yourself well suited for premium MBA programs. Being a part of a pedigreed global B-School alumni network would surely help you differentiate your brand (personal and business) going forward. If you feel passionate about certain projects or social impact, now is the time to take the lead and show the impact you can create if you set your mind to it.
Best wishes
