There are twice the number of x as compared to the number of y.....x=2y

It can be remembered as, comparison pair e.g. as many as/as more as/as less as, consider variable/no. after second comparison word 'as' or than as one side term and the term inside the pair as another term of equation.

Twice as many X as Y ---> Twice as many apples as oranges.

So if we had 10 oranges, we would have 20 apples.

What is being compared here - X and Y.
You should note that 'as Y' signifies something i.e. X is being compared. There is some value of Y and X is twice of that.

Hi SanaAgarwal,

It means that you must “double y” in order for y to equal x.

Thus:

x = 2y
