I am a little against using anything unofficial unless absolutely needed

Hello, everyone, this is the first time I am taking the GMAT test. I plane to do it in July. I want a score of 790. For my preparation, I want to know the best books to use, (besides the OG)? Thanks for your reply and help.

Hi
Apart from the OG you can study from the MGMAT study guides.
They are comprehensive and cover all topics of the Gmat.

I appreciate your goal having top-notch score, but people may not help you if you don't tell anything about your present level (e.g., gmatprep mock score, study plan, and so on...).

Apologies in advance to ask but how did you arrive at this number 790?
I have generally seen people aiming for a range or for a perfect score. How is 790 derived?
Your mention of 790 has made me curious

Exactly
Even I wanna score an 800
But I mean I gotta know if I have prepared first in order to know my status

When you say you're preparing for GMAT, the high score is kinda implied, then you work and learn all the concepts and then take the test to see current standing and deficiencies

The path forward comes after that

HI akan96,

Regarding prep courses, in addition to seeking advice in this thread, take a look at the GMAT Club reviews for the best quant and verbal courses, and also read through some GMAT success stories to see what materials have worked well for other test-takers.

You also may find it helpful to read this article about
how to score a 700+ on the GMAT.

Good luck!

I've written a set of GMAT Quant books specifically intended for higher level test takers aiming for Q50 and Q51 scores (the top scores), so if you're interested in those, send me an email and I'll let you know how you can purchase them. As some have said above, a 790 is an extremely rare score, in particular because almost no one gets a Verbal score high enough to get a 790. If that is truly your target, my advice for Verbal would be to focus exclusively on official Verbal questions (from the OG and other official sources), since they're vastly superior to any other questions you'll find. For Quant, also start with official questions (along with material that explains GMAT math well), but you may find you need to supplement that with additional high-level questions, since there's not a huge supply of very hard official questions in print. Good luck!
