How I solved to get Ans - E, not sure if it is right :)

let cost price be C, profit be P

for 1st equation, SP-CP= P (formula)
72-C= P --------- (1)
for 2nd equation, CP-SP=L
C-36=L, but L=2P (make twice profit than loss)
C-36=2P ----------- (2)
After solving, P=12, C=60 and 60TK is not listed, so ans- E

IMHO thats the best possible way, alternately we can solve quickly using the options...

Answer has to be (E), cross check using 60 as CP you will get the form....

Should it not be P=2L rather than L=2P . Since it is given that you make twice as much as you loose.

If we say that 60 is the CP then we lost 24, but we gained only 12. Its opposite of the question.
If we say that 48 is the CP then we lost 12, but we gained 24. Its what the question says.

The question and the OA are incorrect.

A poor quality question and should be avoided.
