Hi Mods,

Just one quick question - will the points earned in this competition get added to our GMAT club points after the competition? My understanding is it won't so want to confirm.

Thanks!

Posted from my mobile device

Hi. The competition points are different from the rewards points so they don't add or mix together. Different points so to answer your question, they will not be added.

Hi team
On day 3 of the competition - I have not been awarded 20 points for correctly answering the questions eventhough I have received kudos from bunuel (the legend:) himself (by the way the majority of my kudos have been given by him ;)).
I am sharing the links of the questions:
https://gmatclub.com/forum/around-the-w ... 15716.html
https://gmatclub.com/forum/around-the-w ... 15723.html

Please reconcile the points.
Regards
Yea, I haven't been given about 90 points or so either for this exact same reason but I am not complaining because if everyone starts complaining about every single point then it's gonna be chaos so as the rules on the front page say: Mods decisions are final. If there is a major problem with the system then you can complain but otherwise, for 30-40 points, just let it be.

You should bring it up. Things should work properly and fairly. I appreciate you sucking it up and not complaining but you really should bring it up and complain
I am looking into your point calculation as well. Thank you for letting me know. We will examine every member's points for the correct answers since we have at least 2 people affected it seems.

Well, as you said before, the system isn't setup to calculate the changed answer for correctly answered questions so the mods are physically giving those points by looking at our kudos points.
I don't think it's physically possible to monitor and compare 16,000 answers? ( ~2000 total members for 4 teams and 8 questions per day)
It's going to be hell for the mods. :P I am not sure it's possible, so I think we do need to accept that they are just human beings as well. :)

Thank you so much for the explanation. I have just checked my points and I have received kudos for the correct explanations. Now, I can see my points are rising. Thanks, BB!

bb
Thank you.
This is correct. It is at the discretion of the moderators. If you disagree for some reason (e.g. your solution is very similar to another one that has received Kudos, please post the links to your and another solution and we will be happy to review). You will need to post 2 links. (One of the moderators has proactively reviewed your posts and found 1 explanation that they have missed, so they have given you Kudos for that explanation). There are many participants and with over 100 responses per question and 8 questions, that's 800 topics that need to be reviewed. with 1% mistake rate, that's 8 explanations that may be missed.

Thank you,
BB

Hi,

Can someone please explain to me what're the criteria for getting kudos for the explanation? Am, still unable to understand. Is it the total discretion of the moderators? Anyone pls explain it to me?

Thanks!

Hi. To clarify, a moderator or anyone for that matter, is not able to give you points for anything. And similarly, they cannot take points away either.

Everything is done automatically by the system. This is why even I cannot do anything about it and the TechTeam has to examine the history and determine why the system did or did not give points.

So again, a moderator cannot award any points except give kudos to an explanation. If a moderator gifts kudos to explanation, then the system will award the points.

Please note that only the initial timer answer is used for the calculation of your points. So if you take the timer five times and obviously get a correct answer one of those five times, only the first answer will count in the competition.

I hope this clarifies.

The system has correctly NOT provided you with points because you have taken the timer for the same question MULTIPLE Times.
The first time when you took the timer, you answered the question INCORRECTLY.

So again, ONLY 1 Timer attempt counts. You cannot take the timer multiple times and expect it to count. Whatever was your first attempt, that's what will be considered in the competition. Additional attempts will not be considered.

If you for some reason forgot or did not realize you took multiple timers for the same question, here is how to look it up:
1. Look at the competition black dashboard and note the time of when you got the 10 points for taking the timer
2. Check your error log

If those times do not match, this means you have multiple attempts.
We also log this in the database

Thank you sivakumarm786 for posting. I am checking. You are indeed short of 10 points per both of these questions. I see you only have 3 records and you should have 4 if your timer was correct.

FYI - everyone should be given correct points even if you took super short timer such as 0 seconds (this was pereviously not allowed).

This change was affected/implemented yesterday as some people took very short timers.

Today we noticed that this change also incorrectly awarded points to some people during recalculation. We have a protection that discards attempts to take multiple timers after the first one and this protection was not implemented in the recalculation. It has now been also implemented in the recalculation.

Thus some people may have seen their points increase yesterday. Some may have seen their points increase yesterday and decrease today and some may see no changes. Just FYI - nothing was changed except making sure the system awards points accurately.

You have any questions, please let me know.

Hi Moderators bb and bunuel. First of all great job in hosting this quiz. It really pushed me to scratch my head around some really tricky questions :D
I cannot fathom how much effort you guys are putting in awarding us all with the points, reviewing each answer and providing explanations to the questions. Huge respect!!

As much as I am enjoying solving these questions, I kind of also get boosted by seeing progress on the score chart also. Haha

I was wondering if the system failed to award the '30 timers in a day' section for 19th July? Because I did take more than 30 timers on 19th but somehow it didn't get reflected.

Thank you for the question.
I have counted your attempted questions on the Pacific Time (Daylight savings in effect) and only found 23 questions.
P.S. I noticed that your daylight savings was not enabled so that may have given you a different time/record. However, currently Daylight savings are in effect.

Hi Mods,BB,

I have a query regarding 30 timer ques. If I attempt 30 ques from the forum even on Saturdays and Sundays will 50 bonus points be awarded or not? Would Saturdays and Sundays be considered a part of competition days?

Please provide clarification.

Thanks!

The competition takes a pause on weekends. However, to stay in shape, you can practice some challenging questions from previous competitions in the meantime:
