Thank you in advance for your time and guidance. Kindly review my profile and share your thoughts. Please note that am yet to give my gmat (currently getting 660 - 670 in mocks, aiming for 700+)
1) Background - Indian Female (29)
Education
2) Xth - 85%
XII th - 79 %
Undergrad - cgpa 7.6 in engineering in ECE from a university ranked 21 in India
3) WE - 8 years of work ex as a business system analyst in a top IT organisation with 2 years of international experience. Have experience of variety of projects such as development, maintenance, opearatons and ITIL services.
Have seen 3 role changes so far and have been leading teams with varying strength ( started with a team of 5 and moved on to manage a team of 30 members, all geographically distributed across 2 continents and multiple states) since last 4 years ( proactively took up this responsibility at a very early stage in my career, and team strength has been growing ever since).
Have Spearheaded large projects, leading functional and non-functional teams from different vendors, to deliver optimised business solutions. Have always played a client interfacing role and have interacted with senior leadership on multiple accounts.
Have conducted various automation drives in the organisation, spanning across multiple technologies such as analytics, and domains such as cards and healthcare. This has helped to establish new systems, and achieve dollar saves/ get more work from the clients.

I have founded a group wherein I teach excel automation skills to those required.
I contribute to the knowledge repository of the organisation , by writing various knowledge documents( functional and non- functional ). I manage access and compliance related activities for my account.

Active blood donor and I contribute/volunteer in such community activities ( planting trees, school bag drives, etc) held within my organisation. Have taught a woman in my neighbourhood. Actively participate in animal welfare activities. Created a small crowd fund to help a family in distress.

Post Mba goals - strategy consulting/product management/brand management
Question - i am targeting European schools such as HEC, Iese, ucd smurfit, etc. Please let me know if my target is achievable with my profile, even if I score less than 700 in gmat. Also, please suggest any other schools that I can include in my scope and will be reachable per my profile.

Thanks for reaching out to us! Your profile definitely has potential, especially if you can get a 700+ GMAT score, so good luck with that, first of all!
Your strengths are definitely your leadership experiences and the international exposure, making the schools you listed very suitable for you as well.
As for your extra curriculars and community service, they are okay, but as I don’t see any leadership roles there, I am not sure I would focus too much on those parts if I were you. The adcoms will be more impressed by that work experience mentioned, and I think it is probably enough to get you in if your essays and recommendations are on point.

All schools will need some convincing of course, but Booth and Kellogg will need more than others, of course. I don’t see that you will easily get in to any of the schools mentioned, but it might be possible with some work. But you will need to prepare for a bit of an uphill battle here.
You will need excellent essays and recommendations and I would really recommend some professional help if that is at all a possibility.
As for the CFA Charter, it definitely helps and you will need to address that GPA. But how to do that is maybe something you should get some ideas from a professional for, as it can be tricky in cases like yours, where there isn’t really a “good” reason for it.

Currently, 26yr old Asian American Male. 27 at Matriculation.
College- 2 yrs at community college (3.8 GPA), then 2 years at UC Riverside (3.15 GPA). Combined GPA ~3.5. GPA fell at UCR due to familial obligations of taking care of a sick relative. Will use optional essay to discuss this.
GMAT: GMAT Prep Test Score of 740 (49Q 41V) Let's assume I will score between 720-740 on the real test.
Work Exp
1.5 yrs- Wealth Advisor at Guardian Life. My team and I specialized in working with business clients on insurance and investment programs, corporate tax planning, and business succession planning. I took this role out of college to really strengthen my soft skills (boardroom presentations, relationship building, communication, etc..). I am a huge believer in working on my professional skills and at the time, my soft skills were lacking in my opinion.
What will be ~3.5 yrs (at matriculation) as a analyst in Product Management at a Top 15 P&C Insurance Company (~$4B in revenue). I love the work I do. This role marries two interests of mine- data analytics and leading cross functional executive level projects within the company. I have plenty of quantitatively-backed examples of the impact I have had. The P&C insurance industry is going through a transformation and it will be heavily disrupted within the next 10-15 years by autonomous vehicles. I aspire to be a leader of a top 5 insurer in the long run and guide the industry through the changing landscape.
Extracurriculars: Vice Chair of a Young Entrepreneurs non-profit organization for 4 years. I was brought in to grow the membership base, and I was able to grow it from ~300 to now over 2,400 members. We provide entrepreneur education and community to grow and collaborate. I also started a volunteer program within this organization and we have volunteered over 3,000 hours at local food banks, beach clean ups, Easter egg hunts, soup kitchens, local libraries, etc..
Organized a basketball team through work. We play in a local men's league. I will somehow incorporate the importance sports (and basketball, specifically) has had in my personal and professional development over the past 18 years.
United Way Rep for 2017. Organized fundraisers and food drives at work. Launched our first Annual Silent Auction which raised more money than any other event.
Short-Term Goal: Join MBA Leadership Development Program at Liberty Mutual Insurance
Target Schools: Columbia, Yale, Kellogg, Ross, Fuqua, Darden, Cornell, NYU, UCLA. I will shorten this list but those are the schools I have an interest in.

That school list needs some editing for sure, don’t forget that showing fit and explaining why you chose the school you are applying to is also an important part of the application process.
But in general I like your profile, your work experience is good, and the leadership experience described is great too, as are the extra curriculars. Should you score 720-740 your chances would therefore be good for most of these schools, assuming your essays and recommendations are top notch too. It will be important to address that GPA as well, but it sounds like you are prepared to do that already and understand that.
If you have any tangible, measurable and impressive achievements, make sure to list those in your essays as well.
Of course the top schools are more of a stretch than the lower ranked schools in your list, but if you work on that fit part and get that right, I don’t see any of the schools as being out of the question for you.

I know I posted once before, but I didn't have a GMAT score at the time. Just took the exam today so wanted to see realistically where I could end up.
Work experience: Big Four Advisory primarily dealing with largest tech 'relationship' clients (FANGU). I work on their home grown platforms from a compliance/data integrity standpoint, so essentially helping them lock down their tech stack from a financial risk perspective (e.g SOX compliance but more in-depth). Lots of collaborative work between finance, business application owners, and engineering teams. 2 Years to senior, and looking to promo to manager in Sept 2019 if I don't leave for b-school before then! High performer, developed my own training curriculum for 25+ new hires and facilitated a few trainings.
Extra curriculars: I mentor 1-2 UC Berkeley undergrads/ semester, basically helping them get into the professional services industry. All but 1 are employed at graduation. During college, I helped manage the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program which delivered 1,000+ tax returns to lower income families and students.
Undergrad school/major: California State University (Ranked ~#300 US, so pretty bad) in Business Admin: Accounting. 3.9 Overall GPA and Major GPA (Top 2% Graduating Class), and received the honor of being the College of Business's Accounting honoree (I'm basically Accounting Department's 2014 MVP). Also have my CPA. President of a organization to help students with soft skills/professionalism, primarily focused on professional services industries (e.g Big Four). Also held part-time jobs during this time teaching kids Math and English.

Being able to collaborate with world-class engineers has really opened my eyes on how structured and precise their work can be, and how creative their solutions are when it comes to something rigid like compliance. That said, I want to be able to continue this trend, but more towards a front-facing product that affects the top-line. Ultimately, I want to transition myself from being labeled a 'Compliance' person to a Product Manager that can actually work with these engineers to build something meaningful, whether that's the new Amazon product, Microsoft software, etc, and not just compliance. Alternatively, because I'm a a key 'face' in maintaining client relationships, I feel that going into Management Consulting would be a good transition to take my experience to the next level, though I would prefer my work to be in the tech industry.
Target schools:
Reach: Wharton, Booth, MIT, Columbia, Haas
Target: UCLA, Stern, Fuqua
That being said, am I just a dreamer at this point for my reach schools? If I can get into a Reach school without scholarship, I'll definitely take it, but I'm quite poor, so I would love for a school to offer even just the slightest scholarship. I understand I'll need AT LEAST a 720 or 730, but wanted to see if a 710 with my background will help at all (with admins or $$).

I have done Bachelors in Dental surgery (64%) and a Master's in Dental Surgery (55%) from top Government institutes of India.
I have worked 1 yr as an assistant dentist with a well known dental clinic after Bachelor's and 4 yrs work ex after Master's.
I had the opportunity of running my own dental clinic successfully in Mumbai for 2yrs.
After which I have lived for 6 months in Muscat, clearing the dental licensure exam and bagging a job, (could not work as we moved back to India). Have traveled internationally to 4 countries backpacking trips.
Currently I work as an on call consultant (specialist) in clinics across the city for special dental cases. Simultaneously I am also running my own private clinic.
Extracurricular activity: Organized and presided over several dental camps (mobile van, corporate and society). head of the literary committee in my undergrad days. I have worked closely with the first aid and relief team for 26/11 victims. I am involved in the adoption and growth of stray dogs locally.
Planning to write Gmat next month and apply for July 2019. What is the score I should aim for? Which schools do I stand a good chance at (as I am older than an avg student). I am aiming for INSEAD.

Thanks for your post! I'm actually really keen on using ARINGO as my admissions consultant, but I'd like to learn more first. My GMAT is okay, but I definitely have other problems with my applications like my low GPA and only modest work history (5 promotions and now a co-founder of my own company, but there's no "name brand" companies that I've worked for. I've also circled the sales/PR/marketing drain, and hopped industries from selling toys to SaaS (tech)) .
My top choice is also by far HBS, and I'm definitely looking to partner with an admissions consultant ASAP to help with my application for this specific school.

- 3.29 GPA, social sciences
- 730 GMAT (RETAKING aiming for a 780)
- Completing HBX CORe (Harvard business 'prep' course) soon with a goal of an A (4.0) average
- Undergrad was at Harvard Extension School (I'm not sure how this is regarded at HBS? It's part of Harvard University, but obviously much less impressive than Harvard College or any other Ivy League college)

Hi,
And thanks for reaching out!
To be honest, I feel like this could go either way. With your profile, 710 is a bit low, I would feel more confident with a 720 or 730 if I were you, but as we all know, that GMAT score is only one piece of the puzzle, so you might be able to overcome that with excellent essays etc., especially if you are working with a professional on that part.
But, it might also not be enough, even if I do like your profile overall. Did you retake again since your last post? How did it go?
Also, your school list is pretty long. Do you have ways to “show fit” for all the schools? If not, you might want to focus on the 4 or 5 out of them that you see would be most realistic for you, as that is also an important part of the puzzle.
Sorry for not being able to give you a straight yes or no answer, but I have to say this is really a tricky one. I do think you might get admitted to some of the schools even with your current GMAT score but it will take a lot of work on your part, and since I don’t know more detail and if you are getting professional help or not, it’s really not a sure thing in any way.

You really stand out from most MBA applicants but it is not completely clear to me why you need an MBA and what you plan to do after you have one. To be honest, I would not worry about the GPA for now, as there is a very understandable reason for that, and your GMAT score does balance it out. And if you get a 780 next time, there is nothing to worry about here, with regards to anything in your profile, really.
The work history, is a bit more problematic, however, but I do think that could be overcome as well, with the right approach. When I look at the facts listed in the work experience part of your post, it does look good, but maybe that’s not the case when one looks at your CV, so it would be helpful to see that too. Totally understand if you don’t want to share that on a public forum, though, so feel free to send us that off the board, if you want.
I do think you would probably need to work with an admissions consultant on the work experience part and how to show it off in your essays, though.
What I do wonder is why HBS, and what your post-MBA goal will be. As HBS will wonder the same thing, do you mind elaborating on that a bit? Is it because of your previous experience there? If so, I would need some more information on that, too, to see in what way that could help you.

First of all, your profile is very interesting, there is a lot in that list that you can really do interesting things with in your application, so really make sure you give the essays the time required in order to do this in the best possible way, even if that means you get professional help with your applications. In my opinion, the weaknesses such as the university and the GPA won’t be an issue due to the rest of your profile.
If the essays and recommendations are done right, I do think the top schools are going to be an option for you, especially if you focus on schools that kind of specialize in entrepreneurship, as they are the schools most likely to understand your profile properly and also to be impressed with it. My pharmacy degree was obtained from the United Kingdom and I moved back to Nigeria after working a year in London.
I am a registered pharmacist in the UK and Nigeria after sitting the Nigerian Pharmacy equivalent exam
I moved to the United States 2 years ago and have been working towards being a registered pharmacist here. As a matter of fact, I sit my boards in a couple of weeks. So my most recent position are Pharmacy technician and Intern position. Those are part of the United state requirements in order to be eligible to sit the boards.
Back in Nigeria, I attempted to pioneer a system by which pharmacy medications would be dispensed in the orange vial bottles that are used in pharmacies in the United States with child resistant caps and appropriate printing labels. This was to prevent the numerous child deaths caused my medication poisoning. And to also prevent medication degradation by harsh sun light. I was trying to help solve one of the issues with medication in Nigeria including the existence of counterfeit medication. Unfortunately I was not successful, I had so much to learn including networking, selling yourself and the general business accumen.
When the Ebola virus struck West Africa, it made its way to the hospital I worked in. Luckily I wasn’t quarantined or anything. But I led a team in providing infrared thermometers, hospital supplies, sanitizers etc to very rural areas who had no way or access to information as people who did in the big cities of Nigeria. Till today it is still used and they do get the odd training and checks to make sure everything is okay. That was the what peaked my interest in operations and strategy of a health care system as I literally saw a country fall apart during this period. I look for ways to solve healthcare problems
When it comes to extra curricular:
I am active in the church, I organized many medical outreach programs in both cities and rural areas to help people who could not afford healthcare. I have a passion for health equity.
I currently sponsor a child in Uganda
I was a student telephone fundraiser and raised about £1000 towards University research and whatever the alumni was passionate about.

My educational background:
I graduated from Durham University in the UK (top tier university in case you don’t know the UK education system), with an Upper-Second Class Bachelors in Modern Languages and Cultures.
First attempt GMAT (August 2016): 680 *can’t remember quant and verbal as I cancelled my score, but it was somewhere in the region of 46 Q 37 V
Work experience:
At university I set up my own music promotion business. (sold my stake in it to move back to the middle east)
Since graduating, I have spent 3 years running my family retail business in Kuwait and Iraq.
I have taken the business as far as I can and in two months I am joining one of the MBB consulting firms as an associate out of one of their middle east offices.
I have two questions I would really appreciate help with.
1) Main question is, considering my profile, how badly do I need to take the GMAT again in order to score a 730, which is my target score. My target school is HBS, but I am also interested in Wharton, Stanford and Columbia.
My second question is, if I do need a higher test score, whether I should take the GMAT or the GRE. I am currently prepping for another attempt at the GMAT, and have got myself back to the 680 range in my practice test. I have also just taken a GRE practice test and score a 163 Q and 157 V (I made some silly mistakes in the verbal format and didn’t realise you had to choose two answers for some questions). I find the GRE more suitable to my skills, and was wondering with my profile which exam you think would be better, if there is a difference at all that is.
Any advice would be highly appreciated.

And first of all: you are a very unique candidate with a very interesting backstory as well, so you have the most important advantage anyone can have when applying to a business school. Therefore, your chances of admission are really good at most schools, assuming you are able to pull off great essays and recommendations as well. But since Tepper is your dream school - and for a reason! - I would probably rate your chances as even better there.
You could improve your GMAT score a bit if possible (due to the low GPA), to increase your chances even further and I would really recommend you apply to a few more schools besides Tepper too, even if it is your dream school.

and thanks for reaching out! Your profile is definitely interesting, but I would definitely say that you need a GMAT score above 680 in order to feel confident about your chances as you are aiming for the top schools in the world.

Last week I appeared for my GMAT exam. It was my 1st attempt. My total score came as 650 Q - 49 and V - 30.
I would like to know what kind of colleges I can get with my current score. I am having 10 years of experience in IT industry with major CMMI level 5 IT companies and currently working as Team Lead in my current organization after completing my B.Tech in Computer Science. Is there a chance to get into IIM Calcutta PGPEX with this score? Please advise.
